Bridges, Bears Bomb Colgate from Deep, Win 92-67
MEMPHIS, Tenn. — The Baylor Men’s Basketball (24-10) team dominated the No. 14 seed Colgate Raiders (25-10) in the first round of the NCAA Tournament by a score of 92-67.
Jalen Bridges led the Bears’ three-point barrage with five makes and 23 points to lead all scorers. Ja’Kobe Walter netted 19 points including three triples, and Jayden Nunn hit four from downtown on his way to 15 points.
The Bears shot 53% from deep as a team and finished 16-for-30 from three, including Austin Sack’s late-game exclamation point triple.
RayJ Dennis had a decent day scoring 10 and dishing nine assists, but he picked up three first-half fouls and turned it over four times in the game.
Colgate tried to hang around in the first half, using a 6-0 run to make it a 29-21 ballgame. However, the Bears were largely able to cope with the interior-focused attack of the Raiders as they grew the lead to 20 points by halftime.
In the second half, Baylor traded buckets with Colgate until they were able to start running down the clock a bit and see themselves safely into the next round.
To note: Jonathan Tchamwa Tchatchoua saw some late action for the Bears, knocking down a three of his own.
The Bears now await the result of the game immediately following theirs in Memphis, No. 6 Clemson vs. No. 11 New Mexico. The winner of that matchup will face Baylor on Sunday with the tip-off time to be announced.
