No. 12 Baylor Basketball Throttles Sam Houston, 104-67
WACO, Texas — The No. 12 Baylor Bears (2-1) trounced the defending Conference USA champion Sam Houston Bearkats with an offensive outpouring officially ending at 104-67.
Seven Bears reached double-figure scoring on the night, and 12 different players had a bucket. Jayden Nunn (Sr.) led the way with 19 points, while Norchad Omier (5Sr.) posted another double-double with 18 points and 10 boards.
Star freshman VJ Edgecombe will likely be the player most remembered from this game, however. The freak athlete threw down another pair of can’t-miss dunks, including an eye-popping put-back slam in the second half.
The game was never in doubt, with the Bears jumping out to a 15-5 lead early in the first half, pushing the lead as high as 18 before the break.
After the break, it was more of the same, with the lead peaking at 40 points with just under two minutes to play as Baylor completed the wire-to-wire win.
Some keys to the victory were domination of the boards — Baylor out-rebounded the Bearkats 42-21 — great shot-making — Baylor went 59% from the field and 44% from deep — and sharing the rock — the Bears racked up 30 assists.
Joining the three previously mentioned Bears with ten or more points were Jeremy Roach (5Sr.), with 12, Josh Ojianwuna (Jr.), with 11, and Robert Wright III (Fr.) and Jalen Celestine (Sr.), both with 10.
The Bears now have four days of rest, recovery, and practice before a Sunday matchup with Tarleton in Waco. The match is slated for a 7 p.m. tip-off, and streaming is available through ESPN+.
