Rankings Update: Baylor Falls out of Polls Again after 0-2 Week
Baylor men’s basketball dropped out of both national polls yet again after an eyebrow-raising 0-2 week in the Big 12. The Bears were No. 25 in the AP Poll and No. 24 in the USA Today Coaches Poll before dropping a road game at Arizona and a home game to rivals TCU on Tuesday and Sunday, respectively.
The Bears now have just four points in the AP and two points in the Coaches poll.
Arizona could not capitalize on its 5-0 start to conference play and the win over Baylor, dropping its Saturday game to Texas Tech by 16 points. The Red Raiders found a place in the Coaches poll at No. 25, while they are the first team out of the AP poll. Meanwhile, the Wildcats have a handful of votes in both polls.
Elsewhere in the Big 12, Iowa State lost its first conference game of the year, falling 64-57 to West Virginia. The Cyclones dropped from No. 2 to No. 3 in the AP and from No. 2 to No. 4 in the Coaches poll.
The Mountaineers who made it through perhaps the toughest week a Big 12 team could have at 1-1 stayed at No. 23 in the AP but jumped from No. 25 to No. 23 in the Coaches poll. Their Wednesday loss at Houston mostly broke even with the win over Iowa State.
Houston, for its part, escaped a scare in Orlando on Saturday to finish the week 2-0. They now sit at No. 7 and No. 5 in the two polls (AP/Coaches). The Cougars jumped up three spots in both polls.
The last Big 12 team to enter the national polls was, of course, the Kansas Jayhawks, who dropped to No. 12/11 after a midweek loss at Iowa State and a weekend win over Kansas State.
Elsewhere in the Big 12, Cincinnati garnered four points in AP voting, UCF pushed Houston to the brink, and Utah joined the small 2-0 club for the week. That club includes Cincinnati, Houston and Texas Tech this week.
