My guess is Alan Bowman

Forgot about him. Yeah, it probably is him. He had an interview a few days back where he mentioned that he wants to be closer to home. I think he and Shapen are probably about equal talent wise. Bowman had a great freshman season at Texas Tech and then dealt with a lot of injuries and sort of fell off the map

How much eligibility does Bowman have left?

One year. Which means we really still need like two or three more quarterbacks

Did you pay attention to the tweet. They don't want someone young who will compete for the starting job. The offensive staff is going to get Aranda fired soon and hence themselves if all of this is true.

Methinks Grimes is obsessed with the idea of turning Blake Shapen into the next Zach Wilson. I mentioned it in another thread, but I think we're seeing some sunk cost fallacy at play. Just give him more time, just give him more reps, he will get better right, right???

Could we possibly have an NIL problem from an angle different than we all think. Perhaps a BMD has invested so much in Shapen, the coaches will be fired if they don't start him?

I honestly just think that the coaches made the gut decision to go with shapen over the known commodity with a known ceiling in Bohannon, the players didn't like it, it backfired, so now we are seeing the sunk cost fallacy much like the Vietnam war where if we keep throwing resources into a lost cause, everything will get better

Well, the only problem I see is that GB ended up at USF, a train wreck. Drones, for all his sucking according to the talking heads in the know, ended up P5 at Va Tech. I guess Va Tech doesn't know how to evaluate QBs.

Bohanon was transferring after spring ball. Drones after the season. There are going to be a lot more opportunities for the guy that transfers earlier. By the time spring ball is over, most programs already have that position (or at least the primary competitors for it) set.

Not many. I know Missouri was interested. For whatever reason, he chose USF over them. BYU was rumored to be interested as well.

There weren't many P5's that took quarterback transfers that late, period.

Not a good decision. USF was a nightmare, I live in Central Florida. Since they got rid of Leavitt, they have gone from being ahead of UCF and dictating terms to play, to chasing UCF. Perfect example of no Coach is saving USF. They have to do a lot of internal stuff first.

You don't have to tell me. I watched most of their games this past year. They had a good little running back and a couple of decent receivers, but their line play was atrocious and their defense was worse.

See this is what I think is wrong. Public Affairs office or at least SicEm should do a 1 on 1 interview with Aranda just to let the fans know what's going on.
Other schools know when we offer someone, so there's no secret there. To me it would keep the excitement for the fans. Good lord, after this season fans need some excitement.

Some more really talented receivers are now available. Would be great is we got one more. We would go from barren to pretty stacked quickly. Wr room and rb room would both fit so much better.

Just missing a qb

Maybe we can adapt to some type of QB optional offense like the 49ers

Nor I. But it is what I was afraid of. This program has a Blake Shapen problem. If he doesn't improve dramatically next year, we're in big trouble.

Doesn't this defeat the point of entering the portal. I thought it was about playing time for most kids. We already had people leave that didn't feel like they got a fair chance to play (right or wrong). He needs real competition to push him. His advantage is a 2 yr head start in the system, if Shapen can't beat out a newcomer then that's on him

I'm with you, and I'm still holding out hope that we'll bring in a starting caliber transfer. But quarterbacks typically transfer for one of two reasons -- immediate playing time or NIL money. We're can't really offer either of those things currently.

This is one of the reasons I've said from the start that fans need to temper their expectations. We were never going to get a top guy. We were always destined to get a fringe P5 starter or a productive G5 starter with a limited offer list. Let's just hope that guy is good enough to push Shapen in the spring because if we get the same Shapen we had this past season, we can expect a similar disappointing record.

Baylor already picked up Oklahoma State's RB starter, so it's unlikely that another higher end transfer RB would commit to Baylor in this cycle.

Looks reasonably athletic and throws well on the run. Watching the highlights we may need to pick up some of his offensive line.

I remember being impressed by his high school highlights. Very accurate arm from what I remember. Mike Leach didn't recruit quarterbacks that sucked, so that's an endorsement

This is starting to feel like the smaller schools are turning into a farm system for the bigger schools...I wonder if bigger schools will start giving less and less scholarships spots to HS kids in favor of "ready to play" seasoned kids they can grab out of the portal.

Coaches get paid to do that, but it doesn't mean that they have shown the ability to do so. We do indeed need depth, so I wouldn't be surprised if we take two or three of these guys. I like this guy more than Alan Bowman. Someone with one year of eligibility doesn't do much for us at this point

I think we need both -- one short-termer to provide competition for Shapen in 2023 and one young guy to provide long-term depth.
