Briles, 40, has been the offensive coordinator/quarterbacks coach the past three seasons at Arkansas, which experienced an offensive upheaval under Briles. The Hogs finished 15th nationally in total offense this past season while averaging 32.5 points per game and 30.9 points in 2021, which was the most at Arkansas since the 2015 season. The Hogs averaged just 21.4 points per game in 2019, the year before Briles arrived.

Arkansas was seventh nationally in rushing offense in 2022 (236.5 yards per game). The Hogs' 3,075 rushing yards were their most since the 2003 season. Briles also enhanced Arkansas' passing game and its balance on offense. The Hogs were one of three FBS teams in 2022 (Ole Miss and UCLA the others) to average more than 230 rushing yards and 230 passing yards per game.
Anyone who runs this offense will have pretty total and scoring offense numbers because it leads to a bunch of empty numbers against overmatched defenses.

But when you take a deeper look, you see that Arkansas scored 21 points in a loss to A&M, 17 in a loss to Mississippi State, 19 in a loss to Liberty and 10 in a loss to LSU. Running that offense, because of the strain it puts on your defense, you might as well chalk up a loss every time you score under 30, which (not coincidentally) the 7-6 Razorbacks did. Those are facts.

Kendal Briles and Jeff Lebby are good for three to five absolute stinkers a year. You're not winning a championship with that level of inconsistency, regardless of how pretty your offense in your wins.

Any team that can slow the running game against either of those coaches can befuddle them pretty quickly. Lebby's game plan against Texas this year was embarrassing.
Also 3 of those 4 games were with back up or injured QBs who are universally bad unless you listen to the loons on this board that think that Malik Hornsby was a power five level QB. That Arkansas offense was great when healthy last year. Arkansas was just rarely healthy last season. Lebby I'm not sold on, Kendal Briles clearly is a quality OC though.
Welcome to college football. Virtually every team plays games with backup or injured quarterbacks.

We all get hired in our chosen professions for similar reasons…

The hands you shake and the people you know….can open doors otherwise you'd not have access to.

Somehow when it's football or another sport…nepotism is a dirty word….

I recall when Art promoted Jr to take the OC spot at BU….he said "if I don't hire him someone else will"….many on these boards praised his insightful genius and we're thankful he held onto an asset on our staff.

Now that other teams hire him (repeatedly)…even in the best football conference in the country….they're low grade dog food who are only where they are at because they are fraudsters who have yet to be exposed.

The hypocrisy is steaming hot around here…LOL
I've never thought much of Kendal or Lebby -- the latter of whom is an undisciplined slob.

I can't be a hypocrite if I've been consistent on the two since they were in Waco.

Both always flew too close to the sun when they were here and helped foster the program culture that ultimately sank their father/father-in-law.

Looks like as TCU fans are starting to try and rationalize this move they are finding talking points from old BU forum posts

Congratulations to Kendall Briles. He & his whole family deserve all they are earning. Kinda wish he wasn't joining Tx Christian U. I have rooted for the teams he's been on since Baylor BOR screwed his family. I'm not sure I can cheer for TCU.

Who doesn't believe that he has already circled the date on his calendar for the Baylor game. Gonna be interesting.
I guarantee you he doesn't have that date circled on his calendar.

Mainly because the dates of next year's conference games haven't been released yet.

In the disappointing year we just had, we averaged 0.3 fewer points per game than Arkansas did under Briles.

Baylor played the stronger schedule according to Sagarin and TeamRankings.com, was within four spots in Massey, and three spots in sports-reference and ESPN. To suggest their schedule was significantly tougher is silly.

But I can tell by the nature of your posts in this thread that facts won't sway your opinion.

Essentially tcu just confirmed and agreed with most every baylor fan that have a giant *** to what the BoR did

But that's what Baylor do and somehow we've had more success athletically in the country than most every school the last 15 years. Kinda shocking

Good for Kendal. They should have never been banished to begin with. Pretty funny that he's coaching at tcu with Kaz after all tcu did and the FWST did to carry ut and ou water who Couldn't beat baylor for years and weren't going to for the foreseeable future with what Art Briles had rolling in waco

And they still haven't won a big 12 title and 65-3 and all that

With Little Briles as OC in 2015 we averaged over 600 yards per game, some of them without a quarterback. So far Aranda is 2-0 against the veer and shoot at Baylor shutting down Lebby twice. I expect that continue.
