Perfect drive.

We're wasting an excellent offense with a deficient defense.

Needless to say, that shouldn't happen in Year 7.

If Dave is going to be our head coach next year, he has GOT to fire himself as DC and go get a proven guy with a proven scheme to handle that side of the ball.

I really question "excellent offense". Can't run the ball consistently. We are one dimensional, that won't win consistently or more important when a win is drastically needed.

My nephew (Baylor senior) is at the game and he texted me that they not only sell alcohol in the stadium, but he suspects they also sell cocaine.

A winnable game against a ranked opponent. Will the Bears finish?

Strange game plan there from SMU

Sensible. They are getting the second half kickoff, no reason to risk a bad play that deep after the kickoff didn't wo well for them. You do a safe hand off once to see if maybe they get lucky and break off a chunk of yards. Then just run it out.

With us getting the ball out of halftime, the door is now open.

We just have to score every possession and have the football last.

That's your mission, offense, should you choose to accept it. You won't be getting any help from the 'D.'

Sounds like CAB/Phil Bennett days...can our O outscore our D

Maybe I've already wiped the memory from my mind, but didn't they score a touchdown on the first play of the game?

They do. SMU got the ball to start the game

SMU won the toss and took the ball. We should get it to start the second half.

Maybe because they scored so fast you forgot they got the 1st half kickoff - but we're getting it 1st in the second half.

I am shocked Lashlee did not try to move the ball there at the end with their ability to go over the top for a quick strike

My biggest frustration is that the argument is "he doesnt have a certain type of player or player X is injured"

In year 6, you should know what you need to be successful and go heavy there. You also know when things are not going to work and you pivot.

Briles knew he wanted to score you to oblivion so was always 2-3 deep at qb and 5-6 deep at WR.

Rhule knew he wanted to beat you out of your will. So he loaded up 10-12 deep on DUDES that he could find a place for and they would haul off on you repeatedly.

What is Aranda wanting to do? He has tried to replicate what he had at LSU but its obvious we wont have the talent needed to run it. So why hasn't he shifted away? Why keep Curtis 3 years too long? Why do we have a walk on starting at Safety in year 6?

Probably just an old man yelling at clouds but watching this game has me genuinely wondering how we can have so many question marks and no clarity in year 6

Just a reminder that the game would be tied at 24 had the Defensive Guru elected to kick the the field goal in the first quarter.

Those Phil Bennett defenses were not good, but looking back they seemed to typically get that critical stop or turnover when needed.

The passing game opened up a few decent runs that last drive.
Need to come out throwing again. Force SMU out of the box. Should open bigger lanes for Bryson. We need some resemblance of a run game to keep humming imo

They can't guard our receivers at all, and our offense has been on the field all game. I think the running game will open up in the second half against a tired SMU defense.

We'll score, for sure. The question is can we score enough to overcome this ****show of a defense?

Bennetts teams were coached to bend and not break. He wasn't disillusioned by an idea that he would have a top 10 defense. He knew it would come down to 1-2 stops and coached the hell out of his guys to get it with piss and vinegar. Loved watching him chew out folks on the sidelines lol

This… his defenses look so poorly coached at every level. The secondary is constantly out of position and has no discipline. The LBs are slow and aside from Thomas have no business playing in space. The Dl generates zero rush and is constantly undisciplined in their gaps. That's just the start of the defensive issues

It's excellent even when one dimensional because you have to load the box to stop the run.

Both Auburn and SMU have tried that and gotten largely torched with that strategy.

We need to get the run game going to reach our full potential, but we're hard to stop whether we do or not.

They weren't top tier but they had playmakers. Guys that went on to the NFL. And on occasion they could be world beaters- when it was against a team with an offense that PB knew exactly how to stop- like that KState game where we knocked them out of the number one ranking and Klein from the Heisman running.

Man I miss those days.

I get it. His job is to keep it close without winning too much.

If he won too much, people might start thinking this is an institution of football.

Does Dave know that we have to set the edge? I mean that is something middle school coaches teach. And yet during that first half I saw numerous plays where we had no one. Not one single guy on the outside. The "outside" guy was practically lined up on the TE or lineman on the edge just right behind the end and two yards back.

And the result was huge gains.

And TcU would manufacture a BU scandal, again.

Go and win this damn game Bears...starting 0-2 would be so deflating given expectations coming into this season

Dave's defenses are unsound in every imaginable way.

We need a new DC next year because without Sawyer and some of these receivers, these tight games are going to be blowouts with his defense.
