Other than coaches who have completely lost the team or the AD thinking one of the coordinators will be able to change things enough to salvage a decent season I don't really get early season firings. Usually nothing changes. The schemes are the same. Maybe more aggressive play calling but that is about it.

He is only like 33 but his dad was about that age when he became Colorado's HC. Why would UCLA not promote him?

Well upon further thinking about it. If his performance as interim OC is going to get anyone the HC job at UCLA, it will be the interim HC there I suppose.

Not Power status anymore sadly but Beavers moved on from Trent Bray after an 0-7 start.

Wouldn't be surprised to see an announcement on Fickell soon.

I find that a little shocking that he wasn't even given two full years. Did they spend a lot on NIL and expect a lot more this year? To be given not much time to recruit and rebuild seems odd. I get in this day and age that is going to become more normal but he must have really lost the team to not even get 2 years.

I think a P4 school would be wise and want to see more than a couple of games, one against what has now been shown to be a fraud (Penn State) and one (Michigan St) a very, very, very marginal team, before they promote an OC to head coach or even promote the current interim head coach.

The same media who were beating the war drums for Ben Arbuckle for the Oklahoma St job along with several others a few weeks ago, now are seemingly silent after the egg he and OU laid yesterday in the Cotton Bowl on offense.

Probably a good idea to tap the brakes and let a full season to play out.

They have been in the Pac for 110 years and were charter members of the conference. . But it is a hard place to win especially with the PAC now being. G6 conf. That makes the job even less attractive.

Year 1 they ended season going 1-6. Year 2 they opened 0-7. Two years is early but I guess they felt they had enough NIL to keep up with MWC teams and Wake Forest

This always seemed like an odd hire. Sure he was an NFL player for a long time but his coaching history was very short. Only at a high school for a few years and then college head coach. No other college experience.
