Remember how hot Willie Taggart was a few years ago?

Kept getting hired up and up, then run out on a rail by Florida State before flaming out at Florida Atlantic, now an NFL assistant. Made some good bank on buy out money.

He was a darling of 365 coach searchers.

It's not easy finding the really good ones.

Same with Golden Boy Tom Herman. There are very few slam dunks out there.

UT with all their resources and football prestige was in the desert for a decade trying to find the right coach. It ain't easy.

I thought OU had screwed up going the coordinator route with Venables...but they have stuck with him and it's looking like a good hire now.

I thought both Taggert and Herman would catch on at a G5 and find success again. They were not bad coaches. They just weren't big time coaches at schools with too many expectations.

I thought they might find their spot and resurrect their careers like several coaches have done that failed at big schools but find a nice G5 school to do well at like a Frank Solich or Hugh Freeze. And they still might but it doesn't seem likely.

That would be a good hire. He was wronged by Northwestern from what I have read.

Yeah the only other ones are Andy Reid and Ken Nuimaltoto (sp) the former Navy coach now at San Jose St.

Interesting as he seemed to no longer want to be a head coach when he left UCLA to go be an OC.

Man… That's got to feel underwhelming to that fan base with what they've just lost.

He did put up good records at Troy. Maybe he can find the magic again at the G5 level.

That is a huge jump.

Especially when you consider that if the previous record was the year Jinbo was fired he alone accounted for about 60% of the record…..

Mark Stoops wouldn't be a bad hire. Join Aranda's staff as a DC and then promote him when Aranda gets fired.

He's the winningest coach in Kentucky football history.

Interesting idea. And certainly better than Aranda. But not exactly sold on bringing in a defensive HC from the Midwest whose record is eerily similar to Aranda. To me, he's in the same downward trajectory.

HELL NO!!

The list of potential head coaching candidates we will have available to us by delaying Aranda's firing till 2026 has shrunk considerably. Morris, Golesh, etc are gone. Traylor looks to still be available but may make a move to a school with more NIL resources, and some of the other names (Mullen, Eck, Rogers) may do the same.

Evaluate the Stoops idea from the perspective of what options we may have in December 2026, not October 2025.

I would rather turn the thing over to him after a year in the property than a coordinator who has never been a head coach. We tried that with Aranda and it has been a program destroying failure.

No, you wouldn't. Trust me. I'm a lifelong Kentucky fan and, yes, and has done some really good things at UK. But he hit an absolute wall and the program has gone severely backwards in the last few seasons. We have no idea who will be available after next season, but we do not want Stoops.

Aranda's next job will be a position coach. No administrator is going to hire him as a HC or DC looking at what he has done at Baylor.

You have a much greater knowledge of Kentucky Football than I do, but the few Wildcat games I saw this season (Texas, Ole Miss) he had them ready to play. In fact, of the games that Texas won this year, Kentucky played them closer than anyone else on the schedule.

Things kind of collapsed at the end of the season against Vandy and Louisville.

Considering how bad things are in Waco right now, knowing Aranda is going to get fired and the team is going to have to be turned over to someone, and who are realistic gets (look at what Penn State is going through), I think this could be a good move. Sort of like getting Grobe. We simply cannot run the risk of promoting an untested coordinator. We did that with Dave. If we do that again and fail, our days as a P4 program are over.

Stoops' trend is exactly like Aranda's. And he was a Defensive coach to boot. They are identical. The only difference is the brand they wore and one of them is bald. DO NOT HIRE STOOPS.

We are better off hiring Traylor or Kinne purely for their Texas recruiting connections.

Klein to KState.

Hartline to USF.

Baylor to Division 3.

I'd agree with that sentiment, but I don't know that we can get them. Maybe Traylor because he is much closer to the end of his career.

Kinne has Texas State recruiting at a higher level than Baylor and is headed to the Pac-12 next season.

I'm not sure he would come to a program whose trajectory is in the opposite direction.

I'm sure we would be competitive in Division 2.

The home game against ENMU would bring some entertaining football to town.

A G6 coach uninterested in a same-state P4 program with higher salary, NIL, and potential as a stepping stone to another P4 job?

LOL. That's the worst take ever. We're not THAT bad of a program, sheesh.

Kinne is a job hopper who would gladly take Baylor. Just don't count on him staying long if he is super successful.

Traylor might actually stick around and retire at Baylor if he came.

This is the wild thing, that Klieman is retiring. I don't know what's going on in his personal life, but if it can be remedied by warmer weather and sunshine--I would gladly take Klieman any day of the week.

I think after this years CFP, the "P4" illusion is going to be going away because there are only two conferences that have a legitimate shot at getting more than one team in...and the Big 12 isn't one of them.

That doesn't change the fact that there is no money in staying at Tx St. Unless it's your alma mater or something, you're looking for the next opportunity.

I guess if you dominate at two G6 spots, you might get noticed by the SEC (i.e. Sumrall) to go to a top program. But Kinne's record probably will only get him to a bottom-of-SEC team at best in an open carousel. Right now, he was passed up unless he wants to go to--checks notes--Tulane.

At least at Baylor he has a clearer path to pulling a Tom Herman and winding up at UT or OU (given his college playing background) if he's very successful.

ESPN aka SECspin is pulling out all the stops to keep BYU from getting in.

Their nightmare scenario is Tech, Indiana, BYU, and the ACC entrant all winning their first games...which would prove that we really are in a new era of parity, in which the SEC is no longer guaranteed some measure of dominance (i.e. one of their biggest assets gets devalued).

in my view, coach was just tired of it. he didn't like nil, pay2play, tampering, entitled fans, media midgets, and all that goes with today's game. he's closer to bill snyder than to eli drinkwitz in adaptability. klieman just couldn't or wouldn't. so he decided to hang it up while the program and his health were still in good shape.

collin klein may be the next scott frost or the next bill snyder. we won't know until time passes. but there could not have been a more logical choice. klein was off to a head gig somewhere if not state, reportedly usf's first choice, taken today by ohio state's o'coordinator, brian hartline.

when he left for aTm his wife, shalin, posted on twitter: we are leaving k-state only for awhile, we'll return. her promise kept, i guess.

and oh, klein recruited avery johnson to k-state.
