Checking-in… how's Linda's plan to keep the roster and recruiting class together going?

I guess they close the admissions office in all P4 conferences. They just have to take what was paid for.

Hokansan is probably correct that initially this might not fly very well with those in the portal. But eventually if more schools would take this approach it might force portal entrants to have to accept it as slots to which to transfer under the pay it all now model becomes less common.

But.....just like everything else in the world....you must see instant results....no time to wait or to consider long-term effects. As such, how many schools who need IMMEDIATE help will buy into this approach? Not only the schools.....their fan who demand everything.

This model Auburn is using might be sustainable for a school like BU. The alternative is not. JMO.

So I suppose we're looking at a big roster overhaul or at least somewhat. I'd guess at least 15-25 new players.

To me the portal rules are more poisonous than NIL. What would be more demoralizing than having RGIii transfer to UT his junior year. Ugh.
Thank you Miami Hurricanes. 10-3. :)

They go hand in hand. Big Dawg programs pay the most to get all the best available players. And they rigged the portal system to make all the players available.

I have concerns about the hype and high expectations of a DJ Lagway entering the portal and Baylor being a number one spot for him to land. Here is an article from a Florida newspaper RE Florida's offense this past year and its focus is on Lagway:

"Offseason shoulder, core and calf injuries kept the 6-foot-3, 247-pound Lagway from making the progress he needed after a solid freshman season. Lagway went from going 6-1 as a starter with 12 TDs to nine interceptions in 2024 to going 4-8 as a starter with 16 TDs to an SEC-high 14 interceptions as a starter in 2025. The low-lights for Lagway included a five-interception game on Sept. 13 at LSU and being held to just 61 yards passing on Sept. 20 at Miami." Pensacola News Journal (12/21/25)

Do we really want to pony up a million $$ to buy ANOTHER wounded warrior? I appreciate Lagway's high marks out of HS, that he was a 5 star prospect and that he is a Baylor legacy and was high on BU as a recruit, BUT haven't we had enough of wounded players that we brought in that never planned out? Just saying.

Why bother tracking. We're going to suck because CDA will still be the head coach. Wake me up after next season.

It's gonna be worse than that. He's gonna win with Lagway and get extended. Then four more years of suck.

Even at 6-6, LL will keep Dave because she and the BoR want him personally, regardless of football success, and they'll do whatever it takes to justify keeping him.

It's not Just one $20 million check. It's $20 million, then the next year $25 million check, then the next year a $30 million check and on and on.

Schools like BU have some serious and consequential decisions to make about whether they should to try to stay in this game.

Agree on that. As crazy as I am about football I'm not even sure that is a good use of money.

Yeah, if I was a Baylor BMD I'm not sure I'd sign up for the current college football paradigm. We all grew up with a different model. The new paradigm is not sustainable and that makes for an uncertain future. BU leadership and the Baylor BMDs - along with many non football factory schools - have some tough decisions to make about what kind of University they want to be, how they want to fund it, and what kind of athletic program they want to have.

It's not. Our athletic department already operates in the red, and now we give 20% of the revenue to the athletes

I believe they have already arrived at that decision. And perhaps that decision was "made" for them by financial and cultural reality. Dave Garland's comment seems prophetic, as it turns out.

The brain dead rationalization for keeping Dave next year is the number one indicator that we are not a football school. Oh nooooo we might take a couple weeks to find a new coach, and we might lose our best commits to other schools or something. Can't let that happen. Oh wait…..

And I think our decision makers would rather be the tackling dummy of the big 12 purely for the revenue that it brings than move to a conference where we can actually compete ie AAC, CUSA etc.

We haven't been since CAB left. Boohoo is now a severely over priced institution who lags in any kind of relevant rankings which seem to have gotten worse since this regime came aboard.

We're gonna be replacing damn near the whole team when the smoke clears. It's so funny, there was some dude on the premium board play works in the athletic department claiming that the big reason for keeping Dave was because the administration feared a mass exodus if we fired him.

Shows how inept this admin is. We saw from a mile away that there would be a mass exodus whether he stayed or got fired

I suspect this is actually orchestrated. This reminds me of Tech a year ago. It is not beyond the realm of possibility that the new AD is actually delivering on the $$ as marketed to Baylor Nation. If we are pulling off the Tech route we will not handle it the same way, we aren't going to be posting salaries I bet and bragging about the $$. I'm looking at the quality of signees and recruits.

I hope you are right, but our current situation is looking more like the total destruction of next year's team to the tune of 2 wins max.

We aren't going to have the same outcome as Texas Tech. Reality is, Cody Campbell posted a few million himself but then started a grassroots movement among the big money tech donor base. That is not what is happening here. Mcnamee was hired mainly to try to find alternative revenue streams with local businesses, because our donor base is pretty much maxed out right now with fudge Center and foster pavilion. Basically, begging donors for more money is not a viable solution at this point in time - Mack was already doing that

Losing too many players. Also too many players with size. Whether they are starters or backups you can't lose so many big players that take time to develop. You can't plug and play with kids who do not have that strength base. The problem with trying and hoping to fill these loses in with transfer portal platers is every team in the country is doing this. What gets them to select Baylo?. I hope they pull this off but it is going to be hard.

Realistically you want 15-18 OL and 12-15 DL and we are just not close to these numbers. I do think Klanderman is going to be a good coach but what is he going to be working with? Aside from a donor really stepping up to almost bring the K State players in Baylor will have personnel issues.

Real leadership would take university money and invest heavy, heavy for one season to get a ball rolling for donors to piggyback for this year and subsequent. I just think unfortunately it's a mess and behind an eight ball. It will be very hard to succeed in a one year time frame no matter how personable the coaches are.

Appears that Linda's letter didn't do a whole lot to keep the recruiting class or the current roster together.

Who could have predicted that...

We may just have to just suck it up and take a big draw on that private debt deal that the B12 signed up for and made available to member schools. Either that or just bottom all the way out this year and see if we can get giving excited with a new HC hire next year.
