This is why I said no one here knows what is going on behind the scenes when everyone was lamenting the attrition part of the portal and acting like the program was ending. Btw huge attrition numbers have been happening everywhere. I know Texas folks who were acting like folks here about all the players they were losing to the portal. You have to judge all of this after portal season. Probably half the people in the portal are in there to make more money. The other half are being cut to make room for someone better in the portal. The portal is brutal. In the old days (pre 2021) how many people did one see booted from a team that wasn't for major off field issues? Not many. The lack of loyalty unfortunately is actually a two way street now despite it appearing that it is all the players that aren't loyal to the poor school and program.

Players demanding a fair share of the value they help create was inevitable given the arc of labor law in this country.

Embracing rather than fighting this from the School side of things would have probably gotten us to a CBA much quicker.

Maybe this will be the year that the Player side of things realizes how much of a necessity that a CBA really is...we can only hope.

There are 10,576 football players that have entered as of Wednesday morning. Of those 10.5K who jumped in, 6,846 are still active and looking for a new team.

There aren't 6,846 open scholarships much less roster spots in Division 1.

What I've said elsewhere and I truly believe is that the modern college football landscape is awesome for casual fans and terrible for diehards.

If you just want to watch entertaining games without any real investment in the outcome, college football has never been better because parity has finally hit the sport in a way it never could before NIL and transfer portal.

But there is almost no reason to emotionally invest in your own favorite team to the degree that you did before NIL and the portal because nothing means anything. Nothing's ever being built that's not an offseason away from being destroyed, and that sucks.

College football has become a fast food sport -- a quick hit of dopamine on demand with no lasting benefits whatsoever.

Unfortunately, the only solution for fans is to divest so you can enjoy the sport the way it's being presented. There's no reason anymore to live and die with a program that's not even a program. It's just an endless rotation of teams -- some of which will be worth following closely and most of which won't.

I liken it to the TV sports folks in our market. I don't even bother learning most of their names because they're in and out so fast it's not worth it.

It's the same way in college football. There's no reason to follow recruiting at all and little reason to learn the names of those not on the two deep. They won't be around when their turn comes ... if it ever does.

Yep. He and his dad are PA guys with Indiana ties through IUP (IU Pennsylvania). The fact that Cignetti turned down Penn State means he much prefers IU.

There is a weird dark horse possibility that West Virginia might be a sentimental option only because he played there and his dad coached there before IUP. But I think that's an extreme long shot that would have made more sense if WVU hired him from JMU before IU snatched him up. So that ship has probably long sailed.
