Shouldn't the board of directors recognize the damage they were about to bring down on the university?

I guess I dont know the idiotic strain of thought that pops off here, that a HC has to literally love the school. Every single coach out there including Rhule and every other HC and assistant currently at Baylor are at their school for the money. Do you folks think Mulk or Drew would still be here if we never offered them raises? Every coach in every sport is a mercenary. You folks are fools if you think Rhule isnt here because we were willing to pay more than Oregon and Temple. You are also fools if you actually think he would not put us into a bidding war with PSU or Ohio State as well for that matter should they have an opening and he has us back where we were under Briles.

Tellme is right that it coulda been fixed a long time ago. Both sides coulda done or said something here and there to lay down a good foundation. Neither did.

QUESTION: IF CAB, other coaching staff, athletic dept, and dozens of players all knew about, participated in, colluded to cover up rapes then wouldn't that mean that RG3 and our other player-friends and contributors to this page knew about it and did nothing? That would be criminal.

FTR, I think it was all preventable, but you can't hire a lame duck AD and I doubt Briles took guidance and advice from anyone.

Ok. I guess Mulkey callin him out for the money and flirting is fair. But she wasn't critical for the other stuff that I know. Nearest I can remember she had the opinion that was sorta a few people doing bad things. Reasonable and true enough for me.

Agree, I don't think she ever mentioned the other issues and to be fair, I *think* she didn't approve of the way the board handled all of this.

I can't stress enough that even though Briles brought his own conclusion to bear, I don't think the board handled this appropriately at all.

I never thought Art was a Bear for life. Didn't really care either. Don't care if Rhule is. So long as they win and somebody makes a good hire once they go. The money those wins brought was big. Important too. Which is why I don't think you fire him for anything but covering up sexual assault. Plenty of fall guys to take the blame for other stuff. Canning Art because they had enough to can him aint a good enough play. Generic stuff like saying football culture. Culture can be corrected. Can't get the money back. And all of us know that the damages could be worse in a few years if the conferences start readjusting.
Problem is, it really only takes a one sensational lawsuit to rack of millions in legal fees and damages to offset the revenue of an 11-1 season and a CFP spot.

It's a risk you can afford to take. Granted, if you have a great compliance department, that's manageable stuff and we both agree that's not entirely a fb coach responsibility.

But get caught lying to your own university and you can forget sympathy from a jury if something goes down.

Well, it kind of feeds the narrative when the football team gets arrested after Sam U's trial and keeps making awful headlines.
You realize they did make more arrests after PH came out?

The board of regents had leadership issues and Briles let his trash go all over the places. Art sorta made his bed playing the pr game. I am sorry so many fans cannot realize he screwed himself post firing.
How dumb not to realize that the NCAA is made of SCHOOLS not football coaches? He is now toxic and too damaged to have advertisers allow their product to get caught up with a Sandusky like reputation.

The cost of re-work as we like to say in the manufacturing business is 10x higher than the cost of fixing it the first time. the real crime here is we have regents who have ZERO clue as to what a world class university should look like and how it should operate.

It's not like this school hasn't seen an athletic scandal before.....all someone had to do was to get involved when the program first started to take off and monitor how players were managed and disciplined.

Real simple.

The board was lost but Briles' lack of situational awareness wiped him out and almost everyone involved with him.
Now, he's labeled like Sandusky. Goes back to the saying, "suck one dick, get labeled for life."

It has always been about the money, it diverts attention away from what happen. It wasn't 52/22/ hut hut or 0/0/0 let's embarrass our gene pool but it was enough to end the football orgy and our regents know how to kill a party.

It also makes the decision easy to hammer an individual or get rid of him or her when they screw up. Don't cry when you leave your employer no margin for error.
Unfortunately, Briles started something that will hurt coaches later.
Heck, that poor sack of dumbass at Minnesota got fired and sent off to pasture because he decided to run a protest against possible sexual assault allegations while embarrassing his school, league, networks and advertisers. It was post Art. No one cried or tried to cause the school problems after the firing. The coach might get to coach again but is in timeout.

Keep believing it isn't common at the major level of college sports.

Ask Rhule if he loves us so much he would agree to a new contract for less.
