Agree. Would be happy with any of the Tx players in the portal.
We better get a top PG.

Less excitement on the follows, get to offering and getting commitments.

it's only been open for 3 days, there is still people being added today. Also she is big on making sure the culture here is going to remain the same. So just throwing the biggest PG name on our roster for example could be detrimental to what she has built.

"What she has built"?

Not talking a mansion……more like a 3/2/2 in a starter neighborhood with a roof that routinely leaks.

Portal window April 6-April 20 for WBB. There will be bunch more in the transfer portal thru April 20. This is getting ridiculous. It has severely impacted/decimated a number of teams, Iowa State, Tenn, etc. NCAA has to do something to minimize the severe volatility and disruption. And death of mid-major programs.

ISU deserves maximum disruption on an annual basis. Easily the most obnoxious fan base in the B12. Not close.

culture wise we have a great program. We have yet since Nicki has been at the helm have a starter left. It's always just role players. That is something a program should be proud of especially in this era with our NIL situation. There a load of teams looking very key pieces to the portal.

Culture only matters when it leads to results.
Baylor WBB Culture without results is simply Dave Aranda in a dress.

No Thanks.

Does anyone know what she is actually trying to build?

Just curious.

And everyone is a single year situation. Not sure there are enough valuable pieces for her to worry too much on culture. Worry about winning. The culture will come from the ways in which you win.

i feel like even in her very first press conference she mentioned wanting good people involved with this program. She came back to college not just because of the basketball connection but to coach players in growing at life as well. I get us as fans only want to see wins and nothing else is important. But I feel like these basketball players we "support" also deserve to be supported in more aspects than just putting a ball in the hoop. That has remained consistent since day 1 and you can see it with the way she has connected with past Alumni example being BG.

Is there another example outside of BG and Sophia Young-Malcom? Honestly, I haven't seen anyone come back over the last several years. And there is a difference in being a friend and a coach. I'll forever support any of the players off the court. That's a no brainer and, as a fan, an easy thing to do. But she was brought in to coach basketball, teach the fundamentals of basketball, create a winning tradition, AND help the players propel as both people and professionals. The last one isn't an OR situation. And I have to assume she liked the paycheck. She is making almost double at Baylor as what she made with the Dream. Again, she was hired to win. Not win at all costs. That isn't what anyone is asking her to do. But she is getting paid well to coach players to be better. I have said for the last several years that none of the players appear to leave as better players. Better people? Maybe. I don't know any of them well enough to have a before and after Baylor WBB to provide an answer to that. But if they are leaving as better people, I'd like to think the entire Baylor experience has something to do with that. CNC was brought to win, continue a storied tradition, and be a leader of the community. If she can't find ten quality women's basketball players that she can coach up and win with, especially in the Big 12, then she is in the wrong profession.

Nalyssa Smith and Queen Egbo have been back several times when they were not playing overseas. Odyssey Sims has also been around on numerous occasions.

While I have seen both Smith and Queen on social media, and I do get that their return shows a connection to the program, but in regards to any player that she has recruited or coached for longer than a season? I'm honestly surprised that Bickle hasn't been back for a game. Or Andrews. I know Jordan Lewis has been back to work on the ESPN+ broadcast. I just haven't seen the post Baylor loyalty and the excitement to return to the program like I see at other universities. I feel that comes with winning and being proud of the program. Griner returned for her jersey retirement, which got her in good with a program that she had trashed on several occasions over the years. Things are different, I get that. Just pointing out what I've seen - or haven't seen - regarding graduated players.

Bickle came back for basketball camp as a coach. There was video recently of BG; not sure if it was from her return for jersey retirement or another visit. Didi came back at least once, but I think it was before NaLyssa and Queen graduated.

1. Griner didn't "trash" the program on "several occasions over the years." That's a dumb comment. On one occasion (her book), she told the truth about one aspect of her relationship with Coach Mulkey and her experience at Baylor as a gay student.

2. BG and Odyssey are arguably in the Top 5 greatest BU WBB players of all time. As has been noted, Odyssey has come back often over the years. Some of that has been because of her relationship with Sarah Andrews, but she was here quite a bit before that. BG (BU's GOAT and a worldwide celebrity) has been a walking PR machine for the program over the past few months. I don't think that is an accident, and I highly doubt Collen has nothing to do with that.

3. There are very few players that CNC has coached for longer than a season, and none of the students she recruited in the traditional manner have left Baylor yet.

Saw that Addy Brown has set up several visits; curious how that works when you're Do No Contact. I guess her people call the other people? This is such a perfect system, ya know, with everything above board--nudge, nudge, wink, wink--LOL. Article behind pay wall.

Top teams locking in priority targets. What a concept.

If Baylor doesn't have a top PG committed by Sunday it is a Massive failure.

Your last statement brings up a consideration that is not readily considered by many people and one that is not really the same as pre-NIL. That point being timing and luck.

I would suspect there are priorities (specific names) from a coaching staff for a particular position. You may have players A, B, and C....or more (quality being in that order). You may also have identified another player that is the WBB version of Brock Purdy. Someone who is not necessarily on the radar at the level of A, B, and C but could be as good or better than any of them for what you need for your style of play. But a player that this board would classify as a failure and most likely from a mid-major.

A, B, and C may or may not have yet entered the portal, but you have by back channels (agents or otherwise) gotten word that they most likely will and that you may even be their top choice......if they come out as expected.

So, how long do you wait? If you wait too long you may not get any because the top player(s) you want eventually decide to go elsewhere (think Novasad) or just decide to sit still because of changes on their current team. If you decide to "settle" for a good, but clearly lesser choice of the three, you may have buyers regret when the one(s) you really want come out and provide you with a statement of "where do I sign".

But at that point, you no longer have the money for that player because you spent most of it for the "settle" player. You can't afford to buy multiples. Sorry, I don't buy that Baylor has top-15 NIL. Logic doesn't support it. We can't buy two for every real position of need at the player level people want us to have, especially when we know football and MBB are going to take the bulk of the NIL money we have available, especially FB. And that doesn't even take into account what we are seeing with the university scaling back in the academic area.

Prior to this mercenary (don't know what else to call it) insanity, a coach, if they had the skill, could have taken the early player and still could talk the one that had come along later into coming to compete against the one they had already signed.

So, when do you "settle" to not truly be left out in the cold when all is said and done and as a result have less than what you could have had had you waited? I don't envy the position that every coach without the ability to buy two quality players for all the positions they need finds themselves in this ridiculous state of college ball. And that is where most programs today fall.

Not surprising at all. I also expect them to bring in one of the top point guards as well. TCU has had 2 very good seasons and have made decision to invest in Wbb. They have money to bring in Olivia Miles and Hayley Van Lith level players. I expect them to be at top of Big 12 for the foreseeable future…..

We don't know their exact numbers regarding NIl. It's pure speculation to assume they have this stupid amount of NIl $$ invested in WBB as compared to Baylor. Baylor's had the NIL to bring in Scott and Vonleh. Those 2 definitely weren't cheap. Winning

How long do you want to ignore this user?
I agree that Nicki has the NIL to bring in some very good players and I think she will do that . As you mentioned getting Scott to stay was definitely not cheap. I think she will also get some good players from the portal this year, but not Miles/Van Lith level players. TCU has had NIL to do this the past 2 years. I just hope we can get good point guard and some good shooting guards who can also play defense,

Let's not forget some swing players at small forward aka the 3 and a couple of bigs too.

They also have Maddie Scherr returning from medical redshirt, and Clara Silva. Despite losing one big-- who rarely played-- to portal, they have more.

Scherr was highly ranked #19 and 5-star HS recruit in 2020. She played BB for 6 long years. She was a good player, but multiple injuries impacted her playing career. Time to move forward, use her master's degree, and start her career. Take care of herself mentally and physically.
