Respectfully, why would a top transfer who wants to win come here?
Like the poster to whom you are responding, playing time at a recognized program, friendships, past coaching relationships, reconnection with players from earlier teams, friends and family in the area, a challenge to make the team better, and many other reasons of which we are unaware.
Despite the emotion that fans feel when their expectations, whether realistic or not, are not met, Baylor is still a program in the top 25-30 in the country, has made the NCAA tournament 22 consecutive times since 2004 not counting the COVID year, the third longest streak in the country and have reached the second round every year (outside of COVID) since the 2004 tournament. The Bears have won 20 or more games in every season since the 2000-2001 season. A lot of people would consider that "winning" and 5 of those years are with the current coaching staff.
Every top player cannot play for the top 16 or so teams in the country (what is left now). Sure they can sit on the bench and get rings, but many want to actually play meaningful, extended minutes during their limited careers. Some may just want to get out of a situation where they don't feel welcomed or comfortable.
Despite our frustrations, head scratchers and criticisms with CNC she is still considered a top coach nationally. That is not me saying that,.....go AI with Google or chatgpt and ask "is nicki collen a top college basketball coach" and see what you get. They look at teams and coaches and can find flaws with any of them that are considered "top" teams. They may also likely see things that do not interest them with those teams, their locations, or academic environment.
We get emotionally involved and have the remembrances of greater winning with a HOF coach. Most of them may have been 13 or younger the last time we won a national championship. They don't look at Baylor the way we look at Baylor. They are just looking for a good team that they may see in the top 25 or in the NCAA tournament that consistently gets past the first round.
We see the glass half empty where they see it half full. We see flaws where they see opportunity for them.
And of course now, the potential exists to interest them with dollars that other teams may not wave at them. We are not an ugly duckling that doesn't win. What we consider winning may not be the same as what they consider winning. But I would say mostly the reason is playing time.....and potentially a nice check. No, we are not going to get a bunch of 5* players, but we don't have to have an elite or top-10 team to be attractive. But it is on the coaches to build that team with the best chance to win from the players that are willing to come here. That is where this board has disagreements and why we might not end up with the best mix. But there are plenty of reasons why top recruits would want to come.
