Gavin is politically a dead man walking.
That will be interesting in FL, rebuilding in the hurricane area has caused issues. Requiring to elevate homes is causing people to lose their homes because they can't afford it. Will the earthquake and new fire regs that are bound to come do the same?
It is not all about the left either, Conservatives don't like taxes being used to rebuild on what they consider bad locations. Those are the ones causing the issue here. I can see both sides...
It should be possible to come up with sensible solutions, if both sides are serious about it. The fascists rarely demonstrate a willingness to be sensible about anything.
I know something about that issue. My home town is in a part of Texas known as "Flash Flood Alley." We have had multiple major floods over the years, most notably in 1972, 1997, & 2003. I remember the last one vividly because I witnessed it first hand, walking down the street from my parents' house repeatedly for three days to watch the water flowing by. After these floods, local leaders took positive steps to mitigate: dams on dry creeks to limit or prevent flooding, refusing to grant building permits in the flood plain, etc.
San Antonio once had decent leadership. After a major flood downtown in the first half if the 20th century they built dams and a huge pipeline so that flood waters would bypass the dense population of downtown. The result is the Alamo, River Walk, etc are protected.
