glad Tesla is tanking for a multitude of reasons. Always good to turn a profit in business, which Tesla hasn't, ever, even with govt subsidies.
Would you mind sharing why you would wish a major US car company to tank and have thousands of workers potentially lose their jobs ?
Don't like Musk and his handling of DOGE cutting people's jobs indiscriminately. I don't like anyone losing their jobs. Don't care for EVs in my line of work as EVs are just as harmful to the environment as as ICEV's due to rare earth mining and practices . Don't like the perpetual govt subsidies is the most thing I do not like. Companies should be able to succeed and fail on their own. Ridiculous valuation for NO profit. Having said all that, I have only ridden in 2 Teslas and they seemed like good cars that has some serious get up and go. I don't agree with the left vandalism of Tesla's. Other ways to get your point across about ole Muskrat.

Appreciate your response.

However other American car companies and their unions have gotten billions of dollars in bail outs.

Clearly there is a huge amount of fraud and waste in the Federal bureaucracy. I am glad cuts are being made.

I honestly believe the only real 'sin' Musk has committed…is that he is currently a huge supporter of Trump.

And when that ends ( as it inevitably will ) Musk will magically be transformed into a figure Trump haters will appreciate.

So now we are for bail outs? TESLA getting sweet heart deal? I thought DOGE was about NOT doing what we did in the past?
Junping to an early conclusion.

DOGE is doing a much needed job. Stay focused on the big prize.
I do agree. Needed and tough, which is why there needs to be no appearance of impropriety. I do think in time the US public will appreciate it. BUT, if it looks like vengeance, payback or a mere shift from Biden's buddies to Trump's it will fall apart.

If it falls apart it will be due to the Republicans who are stealing as much as the Democrats
Don't disagree...

Left GOP long ago. Been an IND for close to 20 years.

Isn't it the other way around this time? I said it is a big problem for wealth to be uber concentrated, and you started in with personal attacks?

Not at all. You made some unfounded claims, doubled down when I pointed out they were opinion, and now you are chortling with JR, mixing snide derision with a baffling habit of ignoring the facts.

We can go round and round all day with that game, but instead I will try again to help you see reason.

You found a place where someone said what you wanted to hear. There's a lot of that going around, of course, and it's not limited to one sort of opinion.

But step back and consider how anyone could quantify the true net worth of everyone. There are no standard records, for example of who owns the privately held land, or what that land is worth (stop and consider your own property taxes, versus what you could reasonably expect to get if you sold it, versus the value of the land if you use it for business growth, etc.).

Consider your stock portfolio, also. The value of that portfolio can change by the moment, and just consider how many people have 401k plans and what is going on with those.

Then consider liquid assets. That's not just cash, even if you knew someone's aggregate bank balance you don't know how much they have in CDs, IRAs, Crypto, bonds, and so on.

My point is that for even a single individual you have to guess at what they are worth, and any honest appraisal includes a caveat that even nominal market volatility will change those numbers.

Then consider trying to guesstimate the net worth of hundreds of millions of people, which you have to do if you want to figure the total wealth of the population.

In the end, all those articles claiming someone or some group has x percent of all the wealth, they are just whining about someone having money.

Which brings me back to my main point: Someone else being rich does not keep you from being rich.

So there is no point to worrying about how much money someone else has, it misses the point completely.

Well, I will take it one step further. Being rich, well off or successful does not mean they are correct on whatever they pontificate.

Many times, making money is more about what you are willing to do to make that money. My favorite is Vivek, selling failed vaccines as cures for other drugs. What a guy. I put him in the same category as the hedge fund guys, billionaires but slimier group I have never seen.

Dad had a gas station the most lucrative years were years with mechanics that knew how to sell. He made a lot of money, but ended up getting rid of them. Mechanics were technically right, car did run better with a new muffler system. But the person came in to fix a rattle that a simple bracket could have solved. It is in all industries.

I love how many on here are huge anti-Government, yet at various times were hooked up to the Government trough or benefited from Government intervention as much as anyone else. Think of an industry that got no benefit from Government or Government programs. Just in the conversations on here, shipping, banking, education, land development/homebuilding, finance, Ag, transportation, Government service... All are intertwined with legislation to help the industry.

Love self-made Farmers, wall has pictures with them with every President back to GHW Bush through their CoOp. MAGA through and through as subsidy check after subsidy check is cashed. Subsidies for dairy, subsidies for planting trees, subsidies for not planting fields, low interest loans for equipment, tax break for land trust, tax break to build homes on non-farmable property, Government sponsored trips to Europe, Africa and Asia to teach dairy. Yet, they are not getting anything from the Government, they are self-made. Pick an industry.

In my opinion the trick is not to envy anyone's wealth. As there is always someone else richer than you.

Be content with what you have and be grateful for your life.

I agree with you fully. Each day is a gift and you can't take it with you. I think we all have a tendency to equate making a bunch of money. I view money as flexibility. Success is being fulfilled in what you do while have great family and friend relationships as at the end of the day, that is all we really have.

This is what I said.
Quote:

Porteroso: Not demanding anything, just saying there are legitimate concerns over how much power billionaires are able to buy. Same thing I've said for decades.

Quote:

Porteroso: There is this real dumb sentiment conservatives have, that it's no big deal if 99% of the nation's wealth is concentrated in 1% of the population. Good for the 1% they say. And that much is true! But they can rarely admit that it is bad for the 99%.

And you reply with.
Quote:

What a load of crap.

The conservatives are not saying they want a few to have "99%" of the wealth.

They point out that one person being rich does not prevent another from making their own wealth.

The honest people with reasonable education all know that, not sure which end is your deficiency, Porteroso.

Someone with a normal conversational skillset would see that there is common ground there, that there are many things we can agree upon, start from there, and then talk about the issue.

But someone like you, addicted to the consumption of shock and outrage, sees common ground as the enemy. You cannot even say you agree with a little of the post, even though your second sentence agrees that wealth being uber concentrated is a problem. You just say the whole thing is "a load of crap."

Then your post devolves into a pseudo-platitude, which ignores the larger issue of the declining middle class. That's your problem. You see common ground as bad, so you reject it, ridicule it, and relish in the regurgitation of platitues that you find comforting.

It's normal, what you are doing. Lefties will do it too. You start to make a point about illegal immigration, and they see the dangers in having any common ground, so they leave sensibility for platitudes, like "If we all treated those with no power as well as we want to be treated, the country would be better for it. You don't want to be deported, do you???"

I say normal, because it seems to me to be the average level of political discourse the few times you even see it happen outside of echo chambers.

I know your eyes have already glossed over, you haven't made it this far, but that's why I keep coming back to this backwards rightie forum, and why I frequent a lefty forum too. I think it is important that people who disagree still listen to those they disagree with. All you gotta do is listen, and you find common ground. I could easily stop, and just revel in my own beliefs and opinions, but it's good for me to know what the tribes think. I learn from it, and having to defend one's convictions makes them stronger, and also points out their flaws.

So returning to the core problem: We cannot continue the obscene spending if we want to survive.

What then is your solution, except to cut the number of jobs and audit what we're spending money on?

Sorry but you are cherry-picking, answering a false contention.

I get it, you want to "win" on the Internet, that's common.

But hating one person for their success never helped someone else make their own success.

And that fact will never change.

Have a good day, sir.
