There is no doubt some mistakes have been made and more will be made. The FAA has over 45,000 employees and 400 were let go.

The post office has increased staff by 120,000 over the same period that mail use has fallen 80%

Sure anyone can take a chainsaw to it - not one has had the stones to do so.

Post office is one that I am on the fence. It is an original function of the Govt, so IMO it should be Govt run. On the other hand, it is ungainly and inefficient. Where I think the USPS has not done well is changing itself to keep up with modern communications. Tough one.

I get it, it almost has to be done by someone outside of Govt. Maybe the way Musk is doing it is rubbing me the wrong way. The Showmanship, the black outfits, the terrorizing emails, and the glee in firings. A lot of these people have done nothing but their job and now are being ostracized as "the problem with the US".

Once again, FLBear:

What specific and meaningful spending cuts do you propose?

Besides totally disregardin the 2nd paragraph of what I wrote, as well as overlooking my agreement on USAID, discontinued programs, DOE and the other programs that don't serve a purpose. I have pretty consistently said I am good with the cuts, as long as they don't impact capabilities that are used and/or needed.

But, you keep doing you.

You do realize that there is more to these positions than the guy at the screen? Sort of like combat arms troops, they are great but without the logistics, supply, transport, ordinance, air support and medical support they don't last long or go far. It takes more than an air traffic controller at a screen.

By the way, check this out. DOGE Administrator is too much, you can't make this **** up. She supplied Dr Birx the COVID information, you know the COVID response you all hate and think is a conspiracy. She was Birx right-hand! All of a sudden at DOGE she is our savior.

DOGE acting administrator Amy Gleason is a data whiz with a 'superhuman' work ethic

These were inexperienced probationary youngsters. Had nothing to do with safety in the skies. 400 out of 45,000 employees. That's fleas on a gnat's ass, but of course if you want to continue to be scared, please do so

Scared? This has nothing to do with being scared, it is being short sighted and self serving. Probationary are new hires, how do you think you train people to fill roles? We are creating a gap that will be difficult to fill in the future when it becomes clear we need these people back. US Forest Service cut 3.4k positions, who do you think manages fire control? Getting rid of that creates CA.

Geez, you guys are either zealots for anything Donald says or you have no idea about operations. Get rid of the studies and the non-operational stuff. Leave operations alone and let them do their job, or you end up with CA.

So you really feel that firing 400 PROBATIONARY employees at the FAA that WERE NOT Air Traffic Controllers has squat to do with anything at the FAA? We need ATC's, not probationary assistant to the assistant, mechanical probationaries or those with missing limbs or dwarfism or intellectual disabilities. And we are hiring ATC's, rapidly.

And where do you think all the support and the fully certified ATCs come from? They just walk out of some school? Every employee is probationary when hired. Who do you think maintains the radar, updates maps and does inspections? That is where they start.

My position is this is where we start? You are telling me that we can't find more waste than these people managing planes? Can you think of anything with more catastrophic failure capabilities? Maybe nuclear weapons? Oh, they cut there too... How about fighting Forest Fires? Yeah, they cut that skill set. Really? This is where we are going after? Air traffic, nuclear inspectors, forest fire fighters. Sorry, I lose faith when out of the box this is what we are cutting. But they weren't safety critical. Ok, I guess safety related isn't enough? Get rid of DOE first. Stop the showboating and do some real analysis, not just what is easy.

Read the article, it shows how it works. There is a support team behind the ATCs. This is not unique, all operations has a geometric base from the guy on the street or front line. The "first responder" is all you hear about, behind them is about 50 people allowing them to do their job that get no press or love.

Dude, you are quite literally showing what a UNION says! Come on, of course they are gonna say that stuff. > Every bit of money they have comes from these jobs. Unions? You can do better than that. I was a member of two unions that exist to take members' money and that's about it

. You think they are lying? That those positions don't really maintain the systems, update the nautical maps and inspect the systems for safety? Just made up? They are positions that just don't show up or do nothing required. You really have no real world experience in actual operations do you? Don't tell me, accountant or financial planner? Stocks? Insurance? (Not a negative, just trying to understand background).

You guys are going to believe what you want until it blows up, then you will blame the "inefficiency" of Government. Keep believing Trump and DOGE. Musk fired the Autonomous Vehicle safety inspectors at NHTSA, the ones investigating the TESLA crashes. That is who you are believing over the guys that actually do the work.

The argument you are making is these 400 probationary assistants to the assistant mechanics and so forth are going to make every plane in the sky drop. And that the other 44,600 folk currently in the FAA are not going to be able to get by without these 400 novices.

I beg to differ

I'm surprised you don't know what I did for a living. I ran the shipside operations for Carnival and RCCL Cruise lines, so yes, I know operations. I was both Chief Purser and Hotel Manager for them. All payroll, visa's, immigration, customs, passenger relations, crew pursers and of course dealing with the crew and all officers. All through me as Chief Purser. As Hotel Manager, you would need to add all the other departments. So I kinda know Operations...

When I came back on shore, I became the VP of Marketing and then the VP of IT for several companies. So, more Operations

Some of the 400 Jobs That Were Cut at the FAA Helped Support Air Safety, a Union Says | Military.com
Dude, you are quite literally showing what a UNION says! Come on, of course they are gonna say that stuff. > Every bit of money they have comes from these jobs. Unions? You can do better than that. I was a member of two unions that exist to take members' money and that's about it

This is not a defensable argument.
. You think they are lying? That those positions don't really maintain the systems, update the nautical maps and inspect the systems for safety? Just made up? They are positions that just don't show up or do nothing required. You really have no real world experience in actual operations do you? Don't tell me, accountant or financial planner? Stocks? Insurance?

I'm surprised you don't know what I did for a living. I ran the shipside operations for Carnival and RCCL Cruise lines, so yes, I know operations. I was both Chief Purser and Hotel Manager for them. All payroll, visa's, immigration, customs, passenger relations, crew pursers and of course dealing with the crew and all officers. All through me as Chief Purser. As Hotel Manager, you would need to add all the other departments. So I kinda know Operations...

When I came back on shore, I became the VP of Marketing and then the VP of IT for several companies. So, more Operations
Cool job. My son works in Vessel Traffic at a Port. Cool. You get my point...

So still no details from you, just spite and venom.

Same as you ever were.
Do you just make **** up? USAID, DOE, Discontinued programs, pretty specific.

Go back to stroking yourself off to your Trump Presiddential Blow up doll, with Musk attachment... Leave the political conversation to the adults
A response worthy of Zelensky after learning the US is no longer an ATM.

I did say specifics. Did you mean abolish USAID? If not, what?

Same for DOE. You toss off names of agencies like they are magic talismen that mean you can ignore the details.

Your second paragraph is frankly creepy, by the way. Why did you think anyone would consider it a reasoned statement?

Abolish, you know better than that 90% was cancelled (5800 of 6200, for specifics). USAID is enormous and covers a wide swath of disciplines. Will all of them go? Who knows what will stay. But most of it will go. Neither you nor I know which ones will go and what will stay, depends on if it helps Musk. I do know for a fact that Ag was hit with it, which the farmers did not agree with the decision. If we can't pay our bills, foreign aid should be the first to go. We have to be able to pay for our own well-being before others.

You really know the programs that should and shouldn't be cut for a 3T dollar budget? I am calling BS. No one knows, it is too big. That the problem I have with it, Musk and his DOGE boys are just cutting with no idea of the impacts. But, the Verizon contract? They sure found that didn't they. Cancel that baby to get Starlink the 2.4B dollar contract. Fire the AV inspectors investigating Tesla. Musk all over those, sure found those. That is my problem with this mess.

I thought you would like the 2nd paragraph, being the Trumpette you are. You keep going personal and then getting creeped or mad when people respond in kind. You want to discuss, discuss. You want to take shots, you will get them back.

not sayin its true or false but it took snopes 7 years to admit they were wrong about charlettesville comments by Trump. Anybody who listened to the raw footage would have known but it took them 7 years to correct.

In 1981 Ronald Reagan fired a bunch of Air Traffic Controllers because they illegally went on strike. He warned them & gave them time to return to work and then fired those who refused to return. I don't know the numbers but it was a bunch and firing those criminals did not resist in planes falling from the sky.

In 2025, before a few hundred newbies were fired we've had plans crashes and some near misses at least partly because of the insane DEI policies of our former fake president. I see no reason to be concerned.

The fascists ard belly aching because they are becoming increasingly irrelevant and unpopular. Schadenfreude!

Musk is probably correct.

The stupidest Musk take - I have several Baylor prof friends suddenly complaining about the work and noise at SpaceX in McGregor. I get it, but it's been a thing for 15 years and never a word until now.
