Isn't GDP a "Product" of what they produce. According to that DC produces a lot of wealth. So, when we say the US has a GDP of 23.5 that includes everything and is a good thing.Assassin said:— Elon Musk (@elonmusk) March 8, 2025

Good point: bureaucrats produce nothing. They never add to the economy. They are leeches that always reduce an economy.
Also, as government grows other sectors stagnate or shrink.

The breakdown is what I think he needs to show, what percent of the DC GDP is government spending? DC has a ton of R&D, World Corporate HQs, tourism... Last I could find was 2017 44.91%. Curious to see 2025, that would show the growth in Govt that occurred or we have been told occurred. If anyone could find that, I would be interested in the delta.

Have you looked at what they do? I am confused, for 40 years we have heard run Govt like a business and farmed out many of what were Govt jobs to the private sector. The "Privatization" of Government. This is one of those businesses. Historian should LOVE this. Letting private sector professionals do it rather than bureaucratic incompetents.Assassin said:One of the terminated contracts listed on the DOGE wall of receipts is a $240 Million contract for Le'Fant LLC.

That is where it is made or broke. Gen. Graves was the difference in delivering the Manhattan Project. Robert Moses built New York. The TVA and Hoover Dams were monster projects that changed regions. Hell, the Panama Canal, Trump's favorite subject, was Government funded. These were all run by men, most that either worked for the Government or hired by the Government, that were just as innovative, organized and visionary as anyone in the private sector. Just like Jobs was instrumental in making Apple what it is. The Government has played a huge role in moving the major projects and r&d developments to market as well as delivering it for citizens.
You continually speak like someone who spent their life in the ivory towers of academia and have never delivered a product or project. So, I politely believe you know not of what you speak.
An investigation has found 5 ActBlue-funded groups responsible for Tesla “protests”: Troublemakers, Disruption Project, Rise & Resist, Indivisible Project and Democratic Socialists of America.

I place little value in that because the actual contribution of the government is negative. They don't add value to anything they remove it. Government is a necessary evil bug they ard mostly parasites. You cite a few positive examples. They are ver much the exceptions. Gif every positive example there ard literally hundreds (probably thousands) of negative ones. And most of us encounter or at least see them all the time.

Do you have any idea what a road costs? 2 lame rural 5.5 million per mile. Interstate 15 million per mile. That is not bloat.
those are questions for George Soroshistorian said:
How much of those insane costs for highway construction are for kickbacks to corrupt party officials just to get the project approved?
How much ends up in various Swiss bank accounts (or Caymans)?
How much of it is for overpriced materials or workers because bureaucrats required it?
How much of it is for lawyers, insurance, or other added expenses because of DEI requirements or to allow for mistakes caused by DEI or other incompetent people imposed on them by the corrupt politicians & bureaucrats?
How many extra people must by hired by various political mandates on top of those who actually do the work?
How much of the cost is inflated because of union requirements?
Your remill and resurface is a bit higher than we are seeing in FL. New contstruction of rural 4 lane is 10.8m. I am using FDOT cost per mile manual. We do have some conditions and urban areas that make it more expensive. I wish we had the rural 2 lane! In FL many rural Counties have moved slag or at least they did, been a while since working rural areas. You guys in TX build some beautiful 4ln rural, middle of no where 4 lane divided. Miss TX, you guys have good roads and good State Parks.4th and Inches said:major city/urban interstate at 15 per mile is average but outside the city the cost is half that for new interstate.FLBear5630 said:Oldbear83 said:

2 lane rural roads would be around 3 -3.5 mil per mile. Redoing existing at around 1-1.7mil per mile.
Geographical areas and soil conditions may increase costs
Really? You do believe anything. Procurement in FL is pretty tight and you will end up in court or challenged if things appear no above Board.historian said:

yes, most likely those bids also require certified payrolls as part of the bid. This isnt a place where the contractor charges $35.00 an hour and pays $20.00FLBear5630 said:Really? Swiss or Caymans? You ever work on a public project?
Market sets the price, usually if materials go up it is because of competing projects or big projects. I remember when the Three Gorges Dam drove up the cost of cement. Buy America drove up costs. Tarriffs drive up costs.
DEI? Really? You think that is a cost center?
A lot of road cost has to do with the State Constitution, some States only have to give fair vaule to take land for eminent demand. In FL, we pay total cost, including business damages for the life of the business. That drives up costs even for corner clips. FL is a big property rights state only 2 things require a full 12 man jury in FL, capital murder and eminent domain. They take it seriously.
FL is right to work State, no union.
For a typical $100 million highway project, approximately $15-20 million in direct wages flow into the local economy. Beyond direct employment, the construction phase drives demand for local services.
The US does overspend compared to other Nations, mostly due to DOT understaffing and a lack of private sector competition. DOT's used to be better staffed.
