No. 6 Bears Beat Seton Hall 78-60, Secure Win for Big 12 Over Big East
WACO, Texas — The newly minted No. 6 Baylor Men’s Basketball team (8-0) rode two good halves to victory over the Seton Hall Pirates (5-2) in the Big East/Big 12 Battle by a score of 78-60.
RayJ Dennis led the Bears with 17 points to go along with his seven assists and five rebounds.
Ja’Kobe Walter was not far behind with 15, three and five in those respective categories. The Freshman’s performance also included four triples.
Elsewhere, Yves Missi notched 13 points and eight boards while Langston Love scored 11 of his own.
Seton Hall worked hard to challenge the Bears in the paint, scoring 34 of their 60 from the lane. However, the Bears made them work hard for those points drawing a handful of offensive fouls.
Baylor also hit six more shots from downtown, with eight of the Bears’ 10 coming in the first half.
This was not a game of particularly large runs. Scott Drew’s squad didn’t score more than five unanswered in the first half.
After Seton Hall cut the lead to 3 with 13:15 left in the second half, the Bears answered with an 8-0 run. Dennis and Walter nailed threes, then Josh Ojianwuna punctuated it with a slam.
Seton Hall was not done competing, but they would not get closer than eight for the rest of the night.
“They don’t give up they don’t go away,” Coach Drew said of the Pirates, “It’s a typical Big 12 game.”
And typically in the Big 12, there is a kill-shot run in the second half.
Baylor delivered that as well with a 10-0 run building a 62-54 lead into a 72-54 lead.
The crowd ate up every second of the impressive performance that earned the Bears their 400th win in the Ferrell Center. Considering that there is only one more Men’s Basketball game scheduled at the venue, Coach Drew was happy his team reached the milestone tonight.
The Baylor head coach also had an insightful answer to the question of whether this year’s team is ahead of schedule: “Definitely in my mind.”
