You should. They played one team all year with less than four losses.

Your reasoning? Go look at their schedule in SEC play… than compare their schedule to the final SEC standings. They somehow avoided Bama, SC, Tenn, Ole Miss, Mizzou. Doesn't get much easier than that
Yep. Their best and only good SEC win was over a four-loss and now-unranked A&M team. And their best nonconference win was over a 7-5 Michigan team that has done nothing to boost the perception of Indiana's schedule.

6 of UT's 8 conference games were against 6 of the 7 worst teams in the SEC:

UGA: 2nd-T
Aggy: 4th-T
Fla: 10th
Arky: 11th-T
Vandy: 11th-T
OU: 13th-T
UK: 15th
MissSt: 16th

They missed out only on Auburn. But in their defense, they didn't lose to Arky, Vandy, OU or UK like Bama, Tennessee and Ole Miss did.

Alabama and Ole Miss lost to two of those three, which should be completely disqualifying regardless of the quality of your wins.

The disconnect between your perspective and some of the others here is that Texas' strength of record is being largely ignored here to the benefit of the standing of Texas' opponents within the SEC. To be clear here, virtually all strength of record metrics place Texas' resume as a top 3 national resume despite it avoiding some of the best teams in its league.

Why is it ranked so high there? Because it still won those 11 games when maybe 1-2 other teams nationally would have done the same. For some checking here, simply looking across the just top 15 shows a bunch of teams with worse losses than top 10 Georgia - some of those losses included teams that Texas defeated (i.e. Alabama lost to Vanderbilt and Oklahoma, Tennessee lost to Arkansas, Ole Miss lost to Kentucky and Florida, Ohio State lost to Michigan, etc.).

So if SMU beats Clemson, Alabama is in the playoff. What a joke. Committee completely ignoring their losses (especially the OU one) and seem to be hanging mainly on that Georgia win that they nearly blew.
IowaBear

Clemson will beat SMU take it to the bank. That should lock SMU in regardless

I could make a strong argument that BYU should get in over SMU if they lose to Clemson, but unfortunately doesn't matter now.

BYU has a better resume and won't sniff a spot because of the bias against the Big12.

It's insulting that the two teams at 10-2 competing for the Big12 championship are below multiple teams with worse records that won't be playing on championship weekend and the playoff committee already said those that aren't playing won't be moved down because they won't have any new data points.

Screw those guys. I thought the playoff would solve some of these biased committee members, but the bias runs too deep and the method for choosing the teams changes based on who they want in the playoff.

Alabama should have been hammered for their late season loss to OU and they barely dropped, but Big12 cant get a 2nd team into the playoff simply because of the name on their jersey.

And of course it's Alabama who survives. Hahaha.

Because the CFP is like "Who's Line is it Anyway?" where the rankings are made up and the results don't matter.
IowaBear

The playoff was always always expanded to get more SEC/B10 teams in. B12 is always going to be a 1 bid league unless we have two teams that are 1 loss squads after championship Saturday.
This is why I'm strongly in favor of ditching SMU and Auburn in the non con for cupcakes

Alabama also lost two of the six worst teams in their own conference and hasn't put more than three consecutive weeks of good football together all season long.

But none of that **** matters.

Yep...hasn't changed much.

The only way to change the perception is for the teams from our conference to start showing up in the big games. It helped for a second having TCU beat Michigan...at least before they got launched into the sun by Georgia.

Right now ASU is a projected 13.5 underdog to Penn State in a first round matchup. The biggest point spread discrepancy of all the potential first round matchups. If ASU is the team to advance I really hope they hold their own in that game and are at least competitive...if not winning it.
IowaBear

If it's ASU they won't play PSU. PSU doesn't win meaningful games. They'll lose Saturday which will drop them down the rankings.
That said, Tyson is out Saturday. That's a massive blow for ASU. I'd probably favor ISU now

On what are you basing this confidence in Clemson? I'm not saying they can't beat SMU, but that team has been pretty underwhelming all season. Klubnik ****s down his leg every time they play a good team.

What if the NFL, MLB and NBA picked by comitte who gets in playoffs. This is a joke. Take the top 2 or 3 or 4 out of the SEC, ACC, Big 12 & Big 10. Its so simple. No more committees. CFP is a joke. Big 12 is getting screwed.
IowaBear

I trust Dabo in big games. Also think Clemson is much more battle tested. Per usual I'll gladly eat crow if wrong. But I'm as confident in that pick as I am any conference title game pick

I'd have agreed with you four or five years ago. But Dabo and Co. have lost far more big games than they've won the past three years. And they've lost all of their big games this year.

That program has stagnated IMO. They're still good and still talented. But SMU shouldn't be scared of that bunch at all.
IowaBear

Perhaps, I'd have to look closer at their results. Regardless I'll take Dabo and his staffs championship DNA against the new dog on the block. Could be wrong but I suspect Saturday Clemson will raise an ACC trophy in a very close game

As I said before, I'll be rooting for every big 12 team in the bowl games. Whoever the big 12 playoff representative is, better hope for either at least a first round win or a close game. A blow out would be horrible for conference perception.

Only way that should even be a thought is if they lose by 50. Otherwise, Alabama got pummeled by an awful OU team. Can teams start to choose to sit out of conferehce title games?
