As much a bunch a BS as a 3 loss team with a loss to Vanderbilt being in there. What's next, just picking in August.

Just 12 blue bloods. Might as well pick OU, miami and USC

They are mistaken the ability to win with earning a spot by winning the games on your schedule. All three of those teams have the talent to win it all, more than SMU and IU. But, they didn't do it during the year so they lost that opportunity.

There is only one answer, centralized scheduling. Let AI create balanced schedule and you just play who they tell you.

This is what some here don't want to hear, as winning a P4 conference doesn't automatically mean that you are one of the best teams in the nation, and, further, the CFP guaranteeing a P4 champ a slot is literally the same thing as handing out a participation trophy. While the current CFP is a mix of best and teams with participation trophies, changing the process to ensure that the best teams make the CFP would mean that some 3-4 loss P4 teams would make it over 0-2 loss P4 teams.

Seems like CFB wants to be an anomaly where the most talented teams make the playoffs only and ignore the results on the field. I don't care if Alabama or Ole Miss would be favored against Indiana and SMU. Don't lose to bad teams and you'll EARN your spot.

I don't think anyone is being honest with themselves if they want to see the same teams year after year competing in playoff.

Um didn't Alabama lose to the team getting curb stomped by Ohio State.

Okay, the third best team in the SEC just got dominated by the third best Big 10 school.

Where's Kiffin, Saban, and Sankey at now?

My comment is that PSU belongs in Cinderella tier and OSU and UT in Dangerous

If you want to have a Cinderella someday, you are going to have a lot of IU vs ND games before you get one. Since Villanova in the Final 4 won it all, how many others have even reached the final 4? Maybe one every 5 years?

I don't get all the angst.

2023 Final Four had 3 Cinderella teams. UConn won it all.

Ok, out of 50 years. How many? If you want to get into the minutia, which this board LOVES, UCONN and Miami are NOT Cinderellas. You want to look up how many Blue Bloods vs Davids were snoozers?

You get the concept. There are a lot of bad games and years for every Villanova and 2023. Better?

I did not say that UConn was a Cinderella. I do think the other three were. What made that year special was this anomaly: three Cinderella's in the Final Four.

Got the most part your point is correct but there are exceptions and I don't think 2023 is the only time.

The reason the Cinderella's are exciting is because of the unexpected. That's why it's called "March Madness" and that's one reason why so many people watch it.

We do agree, believe it or not. To me it is all about opportunity. Baylor has the opportunity to win the Nat Championship, they just have to win. That is all you can ask for. The Bama **** pisses me off.

I think we agree more often than not. However, while I hope Baylor will have a chance for a national championship I am more skeptical. As much as I might dream about, I'm not sure that we can defeat the teams we would face. With Aranda's experiences with LSU's natty team maybe we could make it to the championship game. I do believe that our 2019 team could have been in a 12 team playoff, 2021 team definitely, and both could have made it to the semis. I just don't know if they would beat Georgia, OSU, or Oregon (or comparable teams in that hypothetical year). I am also uncertain if Aranda's recruiting has matched those previous teams.

Also keep in mind how many Cinderella's started that way and after 10+ years of being good moved into the elite category.

Our NC opponent Gonzaga being that way.

Same could happen in football now with a larger playoff and a G5 having a shot.

It has happened to a small extent with G5 schools going to BCS games or larger bowls and winning and as pointed out already, joining power conferences.

In all seriousness the mega conferences helped create these blowouts. Indiana played no one because their conference is so big that can happen. I love a a good underdog story but Indiana going 9-3 would have been a great story on its own.

Great post. What did Bowden say: Lose Big, Lose Small, Win Small, Win Big. These schools now know what they are facing and what they need to do to compete. Give it some time, not everything is fully baked immediately

So, let's just have the Star Chamber pick in August who belongs and we can have a series of exhibitions until the SEC decides who belongs in the 4 game playoff schedule. Because really the only people that are allowed to pick are Stankey and Saban, who will tell Finebaum what to say. Done.
