Don't forget SEC/B1G have both already been asking for 4 guaranteed playoff spots in the future. If they already had their wish, Alabama would have been in and SMU out.

Honestly would just love to see ACC, BIG12, and MWC take care of business in the playoff. Would love to squash this conference superiority narrative.

To me that is the solution, the Conferences get a certain number.
B10 3
SEC 3
ACC 2
B12 2
At large small Conf 2

Or expand playoff by 2 teams to 14 if you want SEC/B10 to get 4 each. That way everyone knows what they are playing for going into the season.

If Boise, SMU, and ASU get boat raced the cries for exclusion will grow even louder. Hopefully that doesn't happen.

Lost in the shuffle here is Indiana's having beaten one of the only two teams that beat Ohio State. As another poster here has said, Indiana will beat Notre Dame. Bank it.

I know it would be cutting off our nose to spite our face, but I would love for all of the non SECB10 teams to take our ball and go form an actual student-athlete college organization. Let those greedy *******s and mercenaries eat each other and eventually become a fall version of the UFL. Yeah, I know ... money, blah blah blah. But I'd rough it for a few years and listen to games on the radio or watch on some stream subscription while the toothless SEC folks finally figured out they weren't actually watching college football.

Funny, no one remembers TCU beating Mich, only UGA game.

At whose expense? IU or SMU. B1O got 5. Their league is not tougher than SEC or even ACC or B12

You keep saying the B10 got 5 in.. who's this imaginary 5th team they got in? Pretty sure Indiana, Penn St, Ohio St, Oregon equals 4

These non-blue blood schools need to stop aspiring to be part of a club they will never fit well in.

Sometimes it's best to accept what you are and make the best of your existing situation. We know from case after case that the grass is only sometimes greener on the other side, and the constant pursuit of greener grass is exhausting.

My thoughts exactly. Highly doubt the B1G is interested anyways.

Not reading thru 17 pages but for ALABAMA to not get in the playoffs is a crime and further reason the SEC and Big10 need to form their own playoff system and invite a few scrubs every year (Big 12 champ and ACC champ). We do not have the 12 best teams in the playoffs.

Does the Final Four have only the best 64 teams? Every Conf Champ is among "the best"? What makes the tourney fun is that there are small schools, cinderellas, blue-bloods, etc... Bama has 3 losses and lost to Vanderbilt. Sort of hard to defend.

No. If they want that then they need to form their own division of football, play only each other, and then not cry when every other sport also locks them out. They can create their own mega division for every sport and can't cry when they get tired of their teams all ending up 6-6.

Boom. Head shot.

If you want an SEC invitational, grow some balls and create one at the expense of every other sport you compete in.

And if you want to make the existing playoff, don't lose three games. It's really that simple.

No SEC team will ever be left out with a 10-2 regular-season record. And with conference expansion watering down schedules, very few SEC teams will ever be deserving of inclusion at 9-3.

What am I missing here?? Why is Georgia so low and PSU so high?

Carson Beck is out. Beck didn't even play well this year when in so I don't think people are very high on UGA. The team responded much better with the new guy, Gunner, in.

Can he really believe those 18 schools would have the same draw if you didn't have the rest of the teams to play against?

Maybe we could just cancel games altogether and award championships based on revenue.

People have forgotten that anything besides money has value.

If we are going to have true playoffs instead of the ESPN Blue Blood Invitationals, it needs to be 16 teams with P4 champs automatically in. Take the money completely out of selection and seeding, meaning ESPN needs to be completely cut out of the process. Have the selection show on another channel with some sort of rotation and eliminate ESPN's monopoly of the bowl games. Do not allow any conference a majority of the spots and do everything to remove any P2 or other bias. Let the chips fall where they may and the results play out. Ratings & money will naturally follow, although not necessarily into the coffers of P2 cartels.

Yes, I know this will never happen. My rant is more of a dream. I can say this, however: I was surprised the committee left out Bama but not surprised the seeding had Indiana playing at ND. I'm also not surprised that Boise State was ranked higher than ASU, arguably with a better record, but somewhat surprised ASU is in the top 4.

My comment is that PSU belongs in Cinderella tier and OSU and UT in Dangerous

If you want to have a Cinderella someday, you are going to have a lot of IU vs ND games before you get one. Since Villanova in the Final 4 won it all, how many others have even reached the final 4? Maybe one every 5 years?

I don't get all the angst.

The angst in that particular tweet was that ESPN used the Arizona logo for Arizona State.

Didn't even notice.

I thought it was the rankings, everyone is upset because IU didn't beat ND at ND. Sorry, on me.

As much a bunch a BS as a 3 loss team with a loss to Vanderbilt being in there. What's next, just picking in August.
