We've made it out of the 2nd round all of one time in the 4 years that Nicki Collen has been our head coach (with two of those games ending in losses on our home floor).

We lost a lot of key personnel this season.

But somehow, we're on the verge of making the Final 4 all of a sudden?

I understand being a "glass half full" kind of person, but CNC has given us no reason to believe we're a lock to even make it out of the first weekend at this point, at least not yet.

Here's a more realistic expectation:

Just make it to the Sweet 16 - which used to be a given with this program.

You missed the point of the post.

1) the comment was about the quality of the roster not the likely outcome. No one can reasonably predict outcomes without seeing a good sample of games with the pieces fully assembled.

2) last season the team finished 2nd in the B12 and would likely have made the Sweet 16 in 3 quadrants but got a bad matchup in 2nd Round in its quadrant.

3) last year's roster had three glaring problems: lack of depth, lack of size, and lack of dependable outside shooting. All three areas have been significantly addressed already and the Portal has weeks remaining.

I would add to this the fact that between 2012 and 2018, most people would agree we had a Final Four level roster but never made it out of the Elite 8.

And before anyone refutes the statement because of the dates included, it is clearly apparent that he means the seasons between the championship seasons. We did underperform in those years, mostly because we had not prepared ourselves during conference to meet the type of teams we would see the second weekend of the NCAA tourney. We had cakewalks through the Big XII and then hit real competition in the post-season. Also the level of competition we saw in the SS those years, we are now seeing in the second round.

Yeah, that's how seeding works. If you're a 4 seed, you will probably play a pretty decent team. The Big 12 is not any better now than it was in those years, there's just not a dominant team anymore.

I think you are not giving the Big XII its due. We had 5 teams end up in the top 25 this year. It is not as weak as you want to make it out. Even when UT and OU were here, in the time from the 2013-2018 years (the years brought up by the poster), that only happened once in the 2016-2017 season. Several of those years, we only had 3 or fewer teams in the top 25. One year it was just us and in another just us and UT. It didn't help that OU sucked during that time. Sure the conference did not have a dominant team this year, but overall it was competitive, when in most of those years, it was not because we were so dominant compared to our conference peers. I think it lulled us to sleep a few of those years, especially the year we lost to Oregon State.

I think it is good that the conference has gotten more competitive. It helps in seeding which I think it helped us this year as it gave us some Quad 1 win opportunities and I think makes it more attractive for recruits. I also think it prepares us better for post season because we had played in close games late in the season. We got the chair pulled out from under us a few years ago. But it looks like this roster will give us a chance to make a move. I think we all hope so anyway. Let's just keep the doctors out of the huddle!

I think Nicki will get 1 more transfer for sure and maybe 2 more. She will need 12 or 13 for depth and to cover any injuries. We had 2 season ending injuries, 1 redshirt and Buggs was out a month this past season.
