You've never been a part of complex negotiations then. These are now points, not after points. The conflict hasn't even ended (not even a ceasefire), and there's a chance we become a role player and not the main player. Meanwhile Trump's throwing out all these concessions without an outline of what he wants. I don't think he even knows. You know who knows what they want? Putin. And China is busy doing long term strategic projects, and we're busy beating ourselves and our allies up. If anything we've emboldened them and made it easier to stand against us.Redbrickbear said:ATL Bear said:Yes, we got something in return. Tell me what we're getting in return here? We've seen floated, no Ukraine NATO, no troops in Ukraine, invite back into G7, reduced sanctions, offering to cut our military, and now troop withdrawals in the Baltics. Meanwhile, nothing from Putin or Russia.Redbrickbear said:ATL Bear said:Surrender Trump going all in for his boy.boognish_bear said:
We withdrew missiles from Turkey in 1963 (and from Italy as well) a smart policy that all American Presidents after that followed course on.
Were LBJ, Nixon, Carter, Reagan, Bush all in bed with Moscow?
PS
The Baltic States remain in NATO and still protected by missiles bases and military installations in other areas of Europe with easy striking range of Russia
We've now gone beyond Ukraine and are now conceding military and economic power in Europe and the globe.
1. "Yes, we got something in return. Tell me what we're getting in return here?".... No missiles have been withdrawn for the Baltic States (despite your premature freak out)
Its a negotiation...lets see what we get for possibly taking them out of the Baltics and redeploying them to Poland or Finland.
2. "no Ukraine NATO, no troops in Ukraine"....well that was never going to happen. Biden's administration admitted that....which just brings up why we spent billions and strung this war out for years if NATO membership was always off the table anyway. But that is a discussion for another day.
Needless to say that is not Trump doing anything different than Biden and the DC liberals
3. "invite back into G7, reduced sanctions"....once the conflict is over are we supposed to keep them frozen out forever? Keep Moscow in the orbit of China and keep letting the powers that be in Beijing reap the benefits of cheap russian natural resources? Is that your great plan? Make China stronger?

I think this is partially what Trump wanted. Not sure if he wanted the Palestinians to stay though. No one in their right mind could ever think Hamas is going to go away without getting squashed. Neither has Trump. But he knows that negotiations, regardless of the subject, follow certain patterns and requirements. Heck he wrote a book about it, and I'll quote him on it. I can easily admit I have never been part of the complex geo-political negotiations to end a war
And neither have you.
But you are the one attacking Trump on here (who is now serving his 2nd term as President of the USA....so he has experience)
Let's give Trump some time to negotiate before you say he is "giving in to Putin"
We have the food we have because it is cheaper than the alternative. We do not subsidize corn for feed or food. We subsidize it for ethanol.... EU food safety standards are de facto non-tariff barriers to entry, and as a result, EU food costs are higher.4th and Inches said:healthier food is more expensive because it doesnt get the same subsidies as processed foodboognish_bear said:
I like the idea...the only catch is healthier food is more expensive...so the money won't stretch as far.
The federal government props up the corn and soy industries to the tune of more than 100 billion dollars a year through the Federal Crop Insurance Program and various subsidy programs. Although corn and soy are not cornerstones of a nutritious diet, they account for about half of the federal farm subsidy outlays and a significant portion of daily caloric intake in the United States.
Instead of propping up farm corporations that make billions in income annually, incentive structures should encourage farmers to focus on regenerative farming, prioritize resilience and mitigation, and subsidize through the lens of nutrition. Increased innovation in farming practices would give growers of a wider variety of crops the opportunity to compete in this space, thereby benefiting nutrition as well as the environment.

I would be fine with just stopping the payments (if they are still going out) and not prosecuting every single instance. If there are ones that are truly fraud then those should be prosecuted.
