* Luke 1:28: The angel Gabriel addresses Mary as "full of grace" (or "favored one"). Catholics see this as proof that God filled her with a unique abundance of divine life.

Mary's status is comparable to Ruth and Esther in the OT: women of faith who served God. We can be inspired by their faithfulness like we might remember Noah, Moses, or David. Mary deserves neither more nor less respect than other great biblical figures. We certainly have no reason to pray to anyone except God.
