Wrong, you are assuming your emotions are facts.
The fact that Talarico wants a debate tells me he is not in control of the race. He may be leading but he's not in control. So Talarico wants a media event, especially since he can't afford new ads right before the voting starts.
Paxton is a different story. On the one hand, Ken Paxton is not an attractive candidate, and his messy primary fight with Cornyn only damaged his position more. Paxton's divorce and impeachment were naturally going to be used by his opponents, and Paxton didn't really address either in a way that shuts the door on them.
But Talarico was an incredibly stupid choice by Democrats. Democrats may have believed the Beto clone would be popular with Texas voters, but while Talarico avoided the completely tone-deaf positions taken by Jasmine Crockett, his positions on a lot of topics were land mines he could not just pretend he never took.
So here we are, with neither candidate going into details on the economy, taxes, the war in Iran, and so on, but instead we get a flood of insults and personal insults about each other.
Cutting to the chase, this election will affect the control of the Senate, Senate approval of judges and other vital nominees, foreign policy, taxes and many other decisions which will affect us all. It comes down to supporting the Democrats or the Republicans.
In Texas, that is a big advantage for Paxton, and there is no way a debate with Talarico is anything but a gamble.
And again, Talarico wants that gamble while Paxton does not.
