Trump has profited big time from business dealings with Saudis dating back at least to the 1990s.

so probably not much will happen

How dare he do deals with foreigners that make him money. THE NERVE. At least if he was going to do business with middle easterners, he should have had the character to do it with Obama and Valerie Jarrett's buddies in freedom-loving, Death to America chanting Iran.
Unless his business dealings or those of his son-in-law or cronies influence his ability to act as POTUS. In which case we have a big problem.

Trying hard to figure out how Trump supporters reconcile "draining the swamp" with policy moves--both foreign and domestic--designed to support Trump's business interests and perhaps even cover up who he personally owes money to and why.

Not nearly as predictable as you.

You either willfully ignore Trump's lies, bragging, insults and blatent conflicts of interests or justify them because you like his policies.

If the elected president appointed a cabinet of people as corrupt as Trump has, might be implicated in an investigation that has already resulted in 5 convictions or guilty pleas (note the GOP never indicted anyone re: Benghazi despite years of trying, and it was clear that if they could have they would have--and Hillary's still guilty until proven innocent but God help us if that happens to a man like, say, Brett Kavanaugh), tries to justify or cover up a gruesome murder in an embassy, etc etc, your head would be splitting open from crying foul so often and so loudly.

You and other Republicans are willing to put up with outright criminal behavior of elected officials to get policies you want.

IMO, the price is too high. And one cost that you are already paying is a loss of personal integrity and any moral high ground you ever had to call out politicians you oppose for illegal, immoral, crooked, mean or crass behavior. Because you've not only voted for that and defended it until you will likely have your words played back to you on judgement day, but you have also cheered it on.

You all make me hope those last-minute prayers for forgiveness that supposedly open the doors to heaven don't work, so you can share quarters with Manafort, Cohen and others in the Trump orbit, like Steve Bannon, Steven Miller and Trump himself. You'll think you're in heaven.

You guys calls McCain, one of the biggest hawks in the Senate and a guy who voted with Trump way more often than not, a Democrat.

I double-dog dare you to NAME me a single Democrat YOU would vote for.

And right now you've got a moderate guy running against the worst jerk in the Senate, Ted Cruz. I was suprised during the last election how many of the uber-conservatives on this site disliked Ted. I'll believe any of you would ever vote for a moderate or a candidate from the other party who will work across the aisle and is a decent guy instead of a waspish pansy like Cruz who is hated within his own party as well as without for his nasty habit of blindsiding people to help himself personally or politically if Beto wins. And even then, I'll suspect it was Baptist women who very quietly didn't submit to Hubbs's insistance that they hold thier nose and vote for Ted and pulled the lever for Beto instead.

You may recall from the old Baylorfans that the torture of another human being is something that really lights my fuse. The Saudis tortured Kashoggi to death, and Trump and his supporters are trying to pretend it didn't happen when they know different. That's scurrious.

https://www.politifact.com/truth-o-meter/statements/2018/oct/18/donald-trump/donald-trumps-claim-no-financial-interests-saudi-a/

Even as president, Trump hotels continue to earn business from Saudi interests, reports show.

Groups lobbying on behalf of the Saudi government spent $270,000 at Trump's Washington hotel, according to a Washington Post investigation. The bill included some $190,000 for rooms, $78,000 spent on catering and $1,600 for parking, according to lobbyist filings.

"The bill was ultimately paid by the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia," the Post reported.

A separate Washington Post investigation found that visits to Trump hotels by big-spending Saudis were responsible for a revenue bump.

A letter obtained by the Post from the general manager of the Trump International Hotel in Manhattan said "a last-minute visit to New York by the Crown Prince of Saudi Arabia" had been a major factor in a 13 percent bump in revenue from room rentals for the first three months of 2018 after two years of declining figures.

The Post reported that while the Crown Prince did not personally stay at the hotel, accommodating his accompanying travelers for a five-day stay in March "was enough to boost the hotel's revenue for the entire quarter."

Emoluments Clause lawsuit
In July, a federal judge in Maryland ruled that a lawsuit could proceed against Trump over his Washington hotel's acceptance of payments from foreign governments. The suit alleges that by collecting such revenues from the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, as well as other foreign governments Trump is violating the Constitution's foreign Emoluments Clause.

The judge found that while Trump does not "actively manage" the Trump International Hotel, he "continues to own and purportedly controls" it, as well as the adjoining restaurant and event spaces, and "actually or potentially shares in the revenues."

I don't believe in hell. Just wishful thinking.

I do believe that, within a relative short time, Trump supporters are going to be exposed as fools. But everytime something happens that appears to implicate Trump or demonstrate that many of his policies (like separating children from their parents at the border in what amounts to state-sponsored kidnapping or ignoring climate change) will finally force responsible Republians to act to defend the nation, the actual Republicans fall in line because they care much more about their political future than the future of our country. My hope is that voters will bail us out, but that's a pretty dim hope at this point.

Probably Russia. It's got to be. And Saudi Arabia. And if it's not them, surely we can find one somewhere. North Korea?

You ****in people are so predictable

Oh so you want me damned to Hell for eternity, huh? Well then it's a good thing that God doesn't listen to you. Truth is, He despises fools like you.

That's all right, you'll believe in Hell soon enough.

https://www.politifact.com/truth-o-meter/statements/2018/oct/18/donald-trump/donald-trumps-claim-no-financial-interests-saudi-a/

I suspect last November when Kushner visited Saudi, he may have personally delivered some evidence of some of the dirty dealings that some in the Royal Family had been involved in, because within a few days of his trip they arrested one of the royal family members that was a billionaire that had extensive ties to all types of nefarious activities and, you guessed it, the Clinton's. Shocker I know.

But a hit list? Please. The Saudis have been taking out rivals and enemies for decades before Trump ever came in the picture and certainly don't need any encouragement from him. Plus, I'm not completely convinced that they're involved in this guy's disappearance in the first place. After all, Turkey is the one who's making the allegations and we know they are oh so trustworthy right now.

1. Trump didn't create this situation. It's been building for a long time. US presidents have had to juggle for decades to maintain an alliance with a country that has strategic importance but shares virtually none of our values. The problem has gotten worse since the 1990s for a couple of reasons: (a) We needed the Saudis more than ever after losing Iran as an ally; (b) the Saudis started exporting Islamic fundamentalism that give rise to a lot of the terrorist movements we see today. For example, Islamic extremism was hardly known in Pakistan until the Saudis started building fundamentalist madrasas there. Trump is far from the first US president who had to try to balance the inherent contradictions in having an ally that often doesn't act like one and has zero respect for human rights or democratic values.

2. That said, Trump's behavior may have exacerbated a fraught situation. It's OK to urge caution and say we'll wait until we're confident of the facts. Trump comes across like he doesn't care what the facts may be. We have arms deals with the Saudis, and he leads people to believe that's all that matters.

And it sure as **** doesn't help when Trump goes to Montana and praises a candidate for attacking a journalist.

3. We know that Trump has emboldened authoritarians by signaling that they (or he, if you want to be technical about it) can get away with murder. Let's not forget that he allowed Erdogan's goons to beat up US citizens on our soil -- a complete insult not just to our values but our sovereignty. Did the crown prince order this because he thought Trump would let him? Or, being a reckless hothead, would he have done it no matter what? Hard to say, and we may never be able to know.

4. The real test for Trump will come later. Will the whole thing be a whitewash? Will the Saudis make someone the fall guy to cover for the crown prince? And if so, how will Trump respond to that?

5. As long as the crown prince is in power, it's going to be very problematic for the US to work with him. If he ordered this, as seems likely, he overstepped so badly that he put his most important ally in a terrible position going forward, especially when you add this incident on top of the brutal bombing of civilians in Yemen.

Probably Russia. It's got to be. And Saudi Arabia. And if it's not them, surely we can find one somewhere. North Korea?

You ****in people are so predictable

Oh so you want me damned to Hell for eternity, huh? Well then it's a good thing that God doesn't listen to you. Truth is, He despises fools like you.

That's all right, you'll believe in Hell soon enough.

What has suprised me least and depressed me most about evangelicals who support Trump is their absolute hatred toward people who don't like him because of social policies aimed at exacerbating racial nd religious hatred and strife . I strongly suspect some pastors are preaching such "Christian values" from the pulpit.

Again, the person you keep describing is Killary Clinton. How can you post this without blushing?
Your ideas are intriguing to me, and I wish to subscribe to your newsletter.

How long do you want to ignore this user?
I think the analog here is another foreigner killed by foreigners in a foreign country: the Brits injured and killed in a poison attack using a Russian nerve agent.
