Rankings Update: Baylor Receiving Votes as Five Big 12 Teams Ranked
After a week with a miraculous comeback but two less than convincing performances overall, the Baylor Men’s Basketball team remained in the receiving votes section of both national polls, albeit with fewer points.
Around the Big 12 three teams are up and two teams are down. With their overtime loss to Arizona and subsequent stomping at the hands of Kansas State, the Iowa State Cyclones dropped five spots from No. 3 to No. 8 in both the AP poll and the Coaches poll.
Kansas also fell five spots in the AP poll and six in the Coaches poll thanks to a tight home game with UCF and the worst blown lead in Jayhawks' Basketball history at Baylor.
As for the teams trending upward, the Texas Tech Red Raiders made the biggest jump. Grant McCasland’s squad stacked an overtime upset of Houston on top of an easy win against TCU to go 2-0 last week to jump up nine spots in the AP poll to No. 16 and up seven spots in the Coaches poll to No. 17.
The Arizona Wildcats also made a strong move up the polls by earning a ranking for the first time since the week of Thanksgiving. They sit at No. 20 in both polls thanks to their OT win over ISU and a rivalry victory over the Sun Devils.
Lastly, Houston gained a single spot in the AP poll despite their nation-leading home winning streak being snapped. The now No. 5/5 Cougars have the SEC to thank for their step up. Tennessee’s victory over Florida knocked the Gators below the Cougars (though the Volunteers are back above Houston now).
Otherwise, Baylor was only joined by West Virginia in the receiving votes section of the AP poll. The Mountaineers did not get any points in the Coaches poll.
