Reece's public comments center on two topics: (1) a desire to not be constantly stuck in the paint, and (2) the opportunity to play for a championship.

Think that South Carolina or UConn remain her most likely landing spots. But the reality that Baylor landed substantial talent over the past week probably diminishes the biggest negative that existed in recruiting Reece [the lack of a championship caliber roster].

Players noticed how Smith & Egbo were used in Baylor's offense. Reece would likely defend the wing in Baylor's defense and go super stretch 4 in Baylor's offense. That option has to be appealing.

But recruiting from behind is never easy and is even harder in the short window of TP recruiting.

Chavez transfer out of Arizona is VERY surprising to me. I would fathom she would not have to sit for a year as she would be a graduate transfer.

She had a lot of promise going into Oregon and then Arizona (good shooter and defender) but the word is that she has a tough time staying healthy for any length of time to play. I think her freshman year at Oregon was the only year she played some strong minutes.

Reese committed to LSU.

i still think we had the best portal so far. The way we quite literally flipped our roster. We are super athletic we have a ton of people that can score at all 3 levels. We have a lot of people that play with a lot of passion. I think this is what you call balanced. no we don't have the 6'5+ upperclassman to go in a dominate. But i think we can be the fastest team in the country. Coach Nicki will have these ladies playing a fun brand of basketball all the things she said would happen in the opening press. I'm excited!!!!

So does Reese start at post over Hannah Gusters? I would imagine she would play the high post to Gusters or pf. Doesn't sound like she wants to play with her back to the basket.

so i believe she left because she was going to be behind Reese and did not like the situation anymore.

i think she would be the 4 and honestly the girl from Mizzou could beat Hannah out for a starting spot she will get pushed.

The way Reese likes to play is not a good fit for the way Kim coaches Bigs. If Kim does not change her style, it will be very interesting to see how Reese works out at LSU.

I am as perplexed as you are !!!

It would have been nice to have Angel Reese but in the big picture I think Baylor is better off. DLB and Bella should be able to both get 15 to 18 minutes per game this upcoming season. That helps in their development, it helps in future recruiting, and it gives Nicki what she wants in game to game matchups. The best way to build a roster long term is by signing high school players and using the portal to fill small roster holes. Any program that is using the portal each year for most of their needs is asking for trouble.

Players go into the portal for 2 main reasons. Issues/changes with coaching staff or teammates and lack of consistent playing time. The top high school players are beginning to pay attention to how different programs use the portal. A 2023 prospect may begin to question a potential school if they are bringing in 4 or 5 upperclassmen through the portal. Where is the playing time? Meanwhile if they see a program is giving solid playing time to freshmen, that will have an effect on many decisions. Quite a few of the top 20 to 30 high school girls for the last 2 years have gone into the portal. When you are use to playing the majority of the time and find yourself getting little time playing for 2 years you start looking for somewhere different.

Nicki said in her podcast with Ashley that she is quite happy with the 12 players she now has for 22-23 and that if they don't add one more it is okay. Most importantly she has depth and incredible flexibility in who she puts on the floor together. Baylor will be a matchup headache for everyone because of the different combos that can be used. Very athletic, different size combos, and tons of speed and shooting range from all three levels. Losing Lyss, Queen and Jordan is tough and yes it will take a few games for everything to jell, but there is a lot to be excited about.

They will be FUN to watch and the point about the ramifications of the Freshman getting meaningful minutes in prospective recruits eyes is spot on.
