Focus on the Family is a conservative Christian organization. What they say here in this article is probably what your church teaches and certainly the Baptist Church and your nom-denominational churches. So to be fair, I am posting their website. Focus on the Family says in part:

So it's possible to be a Christian and, at the same time, wrestle with same-sex attraction. I believe Focus on the Family is doing great harm to LGBTQ kids.
Now compare this understanding of sexual orientation from the American Psychological Association.
