It is a lot when that is not a full year salary but for several months of work

It's more than most Americans make in a year.
What world do you live?

Take a look at what this guy is responsible for doing. The scale and different interdisciplinary areas requiring control. Czar means the responsibility rests with him to get 100,000 displaced people's infrastructure (roads, water, sanitation), housing, work, shops back operational. This is third world nation or post-WW2 level stuff. You have any idea of the complexity from a technical and human impact perspective. If this guy manages a quarter of it well, he is working cheap.

Any of you guys ever worked on this type of stuff or seen it first hand? This is not financial advising, teaching or even developing property. Anyone work on Katrina? Andrew? This make Harvey look like childs play. Look at the pictures and analysis of what those fires did.

Agreed. $100k in California for that job is cheap.
Our vibrations were getting nasty. But why? I was puzzled, frustrated... Had we deteriorated to the level of dumb beasts?

"Climate reality"?

What a crock.

If he was truly in touch with this "climate reality" he "espouses," he would have cleared forests of their dead trees. He would have put the 50 million he's put aside to "defend" against DT into clearing the brush. As well as controlling the water supply rather than wasting it, making sure it was directed to places that might need it because of the impacts of this "climate change" he so frequently barfs up. The fact he didn't proves that he either doesn't believe in that schtick, or he truly doesn't care about Californians. He proved the latter when he cleaned up San Francisco for a recent diplomat from China, but then let it go back to hell after the dude left. That amongst the other nonsensical policies he supports that hurt Californians.

Sadly there will always be Californians who are either of the ignorant, or limo liberal, variety who will vote for clowns like this out here.

But I believe that a lot of Californians are standing by quietly and watching this guy. And if he was eligible for reelection he might not find the results to his liking.
He already "leads" a state that saw its vote for DT increase markedly. People are wising up to him. And while there might not be enough liberal voters in the Palisades, Malibu, Altadena areas to sway an election by changing their vote to a Republican in the next go around, state-wide we can hope for the best.

Which is why he is getting 500k.

But to me it isn't the amount I take issue to. He will have a lot of responsibility.

To me the issue is that the amount is for 3 months. There is NO WAY that the recovery will be done in 3 months. Not even half way. Not even done with planning in 3 months.

That is my issue. The time limit on which he gets so much but he won't even finish the job.

I am curious about that as well. I have several questions.

They said he will pocket 100k, does that mean his budget is 500K to get these people from displaced to on the road to recovery?

Is he working on the hard engineering or the soft human support side, they said charity so the soft stuff makes sense to supplement the hard.

He talked about sales offers and holding, is he there to help protect the property owners? In that case, he is bringing legal services which as never cheap for 100k people. Those guys get $500 an hour. There are alot of wealthy, but there are also alot of elderly and generational where that property is their biggest asset.

There are alot of questions. He may be overpaid, but he may not. I just can't stand when people react to a new blip without having answers. Then attacking those that ask. We are probably not far off at the end of the day, if we can get to the end of the day!

My comment on him pocketing 100k out 500k was in jest as a jab on the high taxes in California. He will likely take home 275. -300

I'm cynical.

If they report he's getting $500k officially, his friends will get him another mill to make sure the "right" decisions are made in luxury neighborhoods.

Chief recovery officer Steve Soboroff agrees to work for free following uproar over salary

LA Mayor: I'm gonna put a RE developer in charge of all of this rebuild process and so forth. I'll pay him 500k for 3 months.

LA Mayor: Update.. Some of you seem upset. Okay... he's gonna do it for free.

LA Mayor next weeek?: Okay he wants this gig so bad he's gonna pay us to do it.

LOS ANGELES (KABC) -- Following an uproar over the planned salary for Steve Soboroff, who was chosen to lead the rebuilding efforts in the aftermath of the devastating Los Angeles wildfires, the longtime civic official, businessman and developer has agreed to work for free.

Eyewitness News confirmed that Soboroff had been slated to make $500,000 for just 90 days of work.
The office of Mayor Karen Bass told ABC7 he would have been paid by philanthropic organizations, and not taxpayers.

Bass' office released a statement Saturday night, saying Soboroff has agreed to modify his agreement and work for free.

500k is nothing to this guy. The access is the value. Look at it as a loss-leader, his companies will do better after and probably be able to position in other communities. Private sector at work.

Put it in perspective, 500k is 1666 manhours at a $300 an hour loaded rate, for the sake of discussion. $300 loaded at a 3.0 multiplier is about $100 an hour. Which is $200k annual level employee on average, without fringe, a bit high but we are talking CA in a high paying profession.

So, if he has a team of 20 to potentially service 100k people that is about 14 hours a week per person over a 3 month period to deal with an allocation of 5k people's problems and properties. Not even half time for his team. The numbers can change, but you get the idea. It is not as outlandish as it sounds when you look at the scale of the job, the manhours available and the cost of labor. I used a 40 hour work week, it all shortens if we are talking weekends or 24 hour access.

I have no idea if this 70ish man is doing all this himself to pocket the 500k, I doubt it.

However folks in California insist on voting for the people who bring on such insanity.

So they should be forced to endure the consequences of their political choices.

I truly hope that Trump will withhold all federal funds that don't DIRECTLY help the people in California. It's obvious that the higher-ups are still more interested in siphoning off funds for pet projects and their own political campaigns.

I am not big on conspiracy stuff but I have seen several videos and pictures very similar to this with buildings completely gone but a car parked 10 feet away in the driveway is fine, the trees are untouched and grass is green. Or things like the trash cans are fine. Not melted just fine.

I know the car and trash cans could have been moved before/after the fire but I saw one where a palm tree maybe two feet from the house looked perfectly fine. How does a house burn to the foundation but a tree right next to it doesn't even look like it got charred or had palm branches burnt?

There are demonstrations of the way spray insulation and extruded Styrofoam insulation burns up in fires. The R factor for the space is great, but it will destroy the structure in a fire.

Fiberglass does not burn.

Am rethinking what I might use on a shop in the back yard.

Trump should tell Gov Hair Gel that there will be no federal dollars until they stop funding illegals. Also, throw in the stick: continued defiance of federal law will result in prosecutions.

If they came here illegally then they are criminals. Additional crimes provide more incentives to track them down and punish them.

Problem is the legals that are in the same community will hold it against the electeds that say that. CA has areas that will not be able to vote that way even if all the illegals are gone. Their families want them here.

Large numbers of Hispanics & legal immigrants are also against allowing the illegals to run roughshod over everything. Most Americans want the criminals out of here. That's why Trump is so popular.

Legal Hispanic Americans don't want illegals sucking up local resources any more than anyone else.
