The ultimate tailgate package for Baylor’s 2019 season!

A Big 12 Champion is decided and the bowl season proves just how good the top of the Big 12 is in 2019. College Football Playoff contender and another Sugar Bowl Champion?

Week 1 | Week 2 | Week 3 | Week 4 | Week 5 | Week 6 | Week 7 | Week 8 | Week 9 | Week 10 | Week 11Week 12 | Week 13 | Week 14

Conference Championship Week

Baylor 27, Oklahoma 44 (Dallas)

The Bears knocked off both Iowa State and Texas to earn this berth in the Big 12 Championship game to take on Oklahoma. These two teams met in Waco just a few weeks ago with Oklahoma winning that one 41-33. It is hard to beat a team twice but this is a Sooners team playing for a College Football Playoff appearance vs. one that is happy to be there. The Sooners know what it takes to win this game and they play like it. Jalen Hurts has a monster game as he has 300 yards of total offense and four total touchdowns. Kennedy Brooks and Trey Sermon running back combo wear down Baylor’s three man front just like they did in the first matchup. Charlie Brewer and the Baylor offense will keep it close until the midway point in the 3rd quarter when Jalen Hurts finds Lee Morris for a 30-yard touchdown to push the lead to 30-14 and gain complete control of the game. Both teams score a few more times but it’s never within doubt in the final quarter. The Sooners take home the championship and are selected as the 3-seed in the CFP. The Bears had a great season and get a New Year’s Six bowl appearance, which is the Sugar Bowl due to the fact that they were the runner-up in the conference. What a year for the Bears.

Bowl Predictions

Fiesta Bowl

#3 Oklahoma 44 , #2 Alabama 41

The Sooners finally break through and Jalen Hurts gets a little bit of revenge on Nick Saban and his former team. This is going to be an awesome game because both of these offenses are going to put up some points. How about the storyline going into this game with Hurts vs. Bama wow.

CFP National Championship

#3 Oklahoma 31, #1 Clemson 45

Ya Trevor Lawrence and company are winning this whole thing again. They will give up some points but I have faith in Brent Venables coming up with a good gameplay and then the Tigers offense scoring too much for the Sooners.

Sugar Bowl

Baylor 34, Florida 30

The other possibility for this matchup would not be a favorable one for the Bears which would most likely be LSU so hopefully Florida will get this one. Not saying the Gators are a cupcake by any means though. I think Florida will be a 10-2 team behind a strong defense and a more consistent offense than the one they had a year ago. They do have some depth issues on the offensive line and in the secondary that Baylor will be able to exploit. The Bears show up in a big way in this game as they start off hot and are able to just hold on at the end. Charlie Brewer has 400 yards of total offense and Denzel Mims has one of his best games of his career as he goes for 150 yards and two touchdowns.

Alamo Bowl

Texas 34, Oregon 35

This will be a really good game between two very evenly matched teams. I am taking Justin Herbert over Sam Ehlingher and that is the difference for me but expect a close one.

Camping World Bowl

Iowa State 31, Virginia 16

This will be a close game for a while because both teams play really good defense but Iowa State is just a better football team as a whole.I expect the Cyclones to get up for this game and take down the Cavaliers right before Matt Campbell leaves to go take the USC job.

Texas Bowl

Oklahoma State 24, Texas A&M 37

Oklahoma State had a great year with a freshman quarterback but I think the Aggies are going to use this game as a sling shot into next season. They faced one of the toughest schedules in the country and struggled this year but they will be an 8-4 or 7-5 team that is really the quality of a 9 or 10 win team. This one will be tight for a while but A&M just has too much talent and they will show up for this one.

Liberty Bowl

TCU 5, Mississippi State 3

The Horned Frogs once again participate in one of the closest bowl games of the season. The teams combine for 50 penalties, 10 turnovers, and neither team crosses mid-field till the fourth quarter. TCU ends up making a game-winning field goal as this game goes down in history just like the Chee-It Bowl last year.

Cheez-It Bowl

Kansas State 17, UCLA 38

Kansas State should just be happy to have fought to make a bowl in Chris Klieman’s first season but I think UCLA could be on a little bit of a rise. This game will give them significant momentum heading into next season.

Final Big 12 Standings

1. Oklahoma — 13-2 (8-1)

2. Baylor — 10-4 (6-3)

2. Iowa State — 10-3 (6-3)

2. Texas — 9-4 (6-3)

5. TCU — 9-4 (5-4)

5. Oklahoma State — 8-5 (5-4)

7. Kansas State — 6-7 (4-5)

8. West Virginia — 4-8 (3-6)

9. Texas Tech — 5-7 (2-7)

10. Kansas — 2-10 (0-9)

A 9-4 Baylor team is not going to the Sugar Bowl. The Sugar Bowl would select a 9-3 UT team instead.

If the Big 12 Champion goes to the CFP then the runner-up goes to the Sugar Bowl automatically. Just like UT last year there is no selection.

Browning said it well. In fact, it is engraved at the Browning Library on the Baylor campus: "A man's reach should exceed his grasp .. or what's a heaven for?"

It would be hard road to the Championship game, but if the Bears nail Ia State and Texas and TCU (lets not forget those wannabes) ... then UT would not go to the Sugar, because the Bears would have beat them.

Nevertheless, exceed your grasp Bears!

I am pretty sure that is incorrect and that the Sugar Bowl is free to select whoever is the highest ranked remaining member of the Big 12.

I did research before writing but if you find something different I would love to see it. From last year:

"The Big 12 later clarified its selection protocol: If the winner of the Big 12 Championship game is selected for a CFP semifinal, the runner-up team from the championship game would advance to the Sugar Bowl."

I really think you need to read the article you mention above once more. Nowhere in that article does it say that the Big XII gets in to the sugar bowl regardless..... In fact it says the opposite..... In my opinion.....I think the sugar is able to select the highest ranked team from any conference. In fact I'm pretty sure that the only true tie in to the Big XII and SEC for the sugar bowl is that if the winner of the Big XII and the winner of the SEC are not selected for the playoffs then those two teams meet in the Sugar Bowl.... Other than that I think they are open to come whoever they want......

The quote I posted from it didn't make sense? Nope the Sugar Bowl has to take a Big 12 and SEC team no matter what when it's not a CFP semifinal because of its current tie in. It is not a CFP bowl this year. The Big 12 stated that the runner up gets that bid no matter ranking so there is no choice actually. Just like Rose Bowl has to take Big 10 and PAC 12 when it's not a semifinal game.

I posted that article because someone said they would choose Texas over Baylor for the game but that is not true as the article states the runner up goes to the Sugar Bowl if the top team makes the CFP.

Now for you saying the Sugar Bowl can choose whoever they want.

If you scroll to the bottom of the Sugar Bowl website. There is a calendar of their upcoming tie in. They all say Big 12 vs. SEC or CFP semifinal through 2026. Not sure why they would put that if they didn't plan on taking their two tie in conferences.

If you scroll to New Years contract Bowls on the Big 12 website you may find the answer once again.

This is correct. I don't know why people are pushing back against that. The Sugar Bowl has been a Big 12 tie in since 2015 and will take either the champion or the championship game loser if the champion makes the CFP.

This is no different than the SEC. The #1 SEC team goes to the Sugar Bowl when the bowl is not a CFP semifinal, and the same is true for the #1 Big 12 team. If either of the #1s are not available by virtue of making the CFP, the #2s take their spot. This is no different than the PAC and B1G with the Rose Bowl or the ACC with the Orange Bowl.

The part I pushed back on, which it appears I am mistaken, was which B12 team would go. Based on what has been posted, it appears the loser of the B12 Conf. championship game goes, but the highest ranked remaining SEC team goes (i.e., not necessarily the loser of their conference championship game).
