They've been changing it up every year and the media just goes along with it, maybe helping it… probably helping it. I usually have no qualms with Des but his remark showed the average ESPN commentator knows nothing about Big12 football and likely the ACC aside from Deion, Ward, and Dabo. Everyone else can jump off a bridge for all they care. 7-2 vs 7-2 in a still open Big12 title race and a key member of Gameday questions why he's picking that matchup. Pathetic. Don't believe I've heard on ESPN people question why Miami is ahead of SMU
Curt Cignetti stays on brand here with @jess_sims. He’s not flinching or changing with the size of the stage today. https://t.co/45Fq1oovCQ

This coach is awesome.
This graphic displays the complete disregard for the BIG12 conference. The fact that there are 2 big12 teams ranked higher than Clemson “who’s somehow in the hunt” is remarkable… pic.twitter.com/RdF9Totv9Z

The chaos playing out now is what the architects of the 12-team CFP wanted: Games, irrelevant in a 4-team playoff, are mattering.
— Ross Dellenger (@RossDellenger) November 24, 2024
CFP contenders Alabama, Texas A&M and Boise are all either tied or losing. Path to the CFP is opening for the ACC runner-up, Tulane and others.

And this is what those of us who've been arguing for a playoff for years said would happen. It makes normally irrelevant games in November suddenly relevant. Traditionalists wanted the regular season to be the playoff (I.e. if you lose 1, you're mostly done), but I like this better.
The Big 12 is (functionally) eliminated from at large bids to the CFP. Their champ will likely get but is not guaranteed an autobid.

Surely after this day of chaos they aren't seriously still talking about 4 SEC teams, right?

The SEC is so strong because Bama and Aggy sitting at or near the top of the conference can be beat by two SEC bottom feeders OU and Auburn. That shows how strong the whole conference is.
In the B12 when 4-6 KU beats Colo at the top of the conference it shows how shtty the B12 is.
Did I do it right?

Alabama & Ole Miss should be effectively eliminated from contention already. They don't deserve to be in. But both will likely be considered and one or both will get in. That's how corrupt the ESPN Blue Blood Invitational is.

Theh both beat Georgia though, and if Georgia wins SEC championship, committee will remember these wins.

Yes, because the worst SEC team is still viewed as better than the best Big 12 school. SEC fans would argue a school like Auburn or OU would stillbe the favorite in a neutral site game against a BYU or Arizona State.
As such, don't be surprised if Big 12 does indeed get left out of the playoff. We're viewed as simply an upper G5 conference now in football.

Which is ridiculous because our worst school (OSU) beat Arkansas

B12 has to schedule more of those games. All it can. Play anyone anywhere anytime. And be loud about it.

This. The Big 12 needs to schedule more of P4 games in the regular season and win at least 50% in them - with 16 Big 12 teams, that translates to 8 P4 out of conference regular season wins per season. That's reasonable and would reflect positively on the conference.
Otherwise, the reputation of the conference will continue to come up shorter and shorter over time.

The strength of the big 12 is going to be its depth. It will be important to have everybody in the league doing this.

Agreed on the scheduling of P4 opponents, but quite a few Big 12 teams will still lose those P4 games. Batting 50% is probably the most that could be hoped for without significant luck.
