We played hard and competed well. We just didn't play nearly a clean enough game to beat a good team today.

I feel better now than I did in the first half. This was more of a missed opportunity than an ass-kicking.

We need to clean A LOT of stuff up. But we weren't outmanned today anywhere but in the secondary. And we've got a lot of new personnel coming in there.

LSU is a good team?

LSU finished 9-4 and 5-3 in SEC play and has a win over #14 Ole Miss. They will probably sneak back into the Top 25 in the last poll.

Do they not qualify as a good team?

Some are back to being idiots. You knew it would happen if we lost whether by 3, 13 or 28.

Really frustrating finish to an otherwise outstanding second half of the season. Way too many mistakes / bad decisions by the coaches and way too many mistakes by the players in what was a very winnable game.
Agreed. "Frustrating" is the word of the day.

That should have been a different game, but we didn't play well enough today to make it one.

A lot of mistakes that were more characteristic of our 2-4 start than our 6-0 finish.

That's the part that bothers me most. We didn't show up and play the way we're capable of playing. But credit to LSU. They got on us quick and turned the pressure up.

The bad center snap was the killer. Secondary was atrocious, but the rest of the team looks like they can compete. I'm leaving the stadium now. The most impressive part of today was the BU fan turnout. It was really nice to see the team get such support.

Expecting 8-4 again

I think the talent next year is better, but the schedule is tougher, and I don't think our talent is so improved that it overcomes Dave's shortcomings as a coach to take on a tougher schedule. Also, bad teams this year like Cincy, UH and UCF are undoubtedly going to make improvements as well. I see eight wins as our ceiling, and five or six wins as the floor. That assumes that we don't have key injuries of course

P4 season ended similarly to how it started. You can't blow that many opportunities and leave that many points off the board against a decent team.

LSU is good. We had every opportunity to win and repeatedly pissed the game away. That says more about us than LSU. We have a great non-con schedule next year that should tell us more about where we are at. Good year...more to do. Sic'em!

I'm as frustrated right now as anybody and I wanted to see CDA gone after the '23 season, but in fairness he did more than "just enough" to deserve another year by going 6-0 for the second half of the regular season and finishing 8-5 overall including bowl game.

Talent-wise, there wasn't a ton separating those teams today. Their quarterback and receivers abused our overmatched secondary, but ours did the same to theirs. Neither run game was a major factor.

We just made too many mistakes today. Can't do that and expect to beat other good teams.

Yes. They won nine games and had a 5-3 record in the SEC with wins over ranked teams from South Carolina and Ole Miss.

They weren't a great team, but like a lot of teams with similar records in the SEC, they were a good one.

They also got healthy. This was a good transition from the past two seasons. We are not top SEC ready, but we are closer.

They have receivers with size that can run, we have a bunch of small receivers; it hurts in the red zone with no big receivers

The 2024 Bears were a good, solid team. We just weren't good enough to beat other good teams when we didn't play well. And today unfortunately, we didn't play well.

Josh Cameron (6-1, 218), Ketron Jackson (6-3, 205) and Hal Presley (6-3, 210) aren't small. And today, they combined for 14 catches for 222 yards.

And our "small receivers" added eight catches for an additional 119 yards.

They had plenty of trouble with our wideouts today.

Team was poorly poorly poorly prepared. Bad coaching.

Nope poor execution. Started with the DBs and QB. Learn from it and move one. Get to start the season off with an SEC team. Get stronger and faster in the off season and be ready to go in 25

Someone earlier in the thread said Sawyer seemed off today. I thought the same thing. The funny thing is he still threw for 445 yards.... although his completion percentage was only 58.8.

He made some good intermediate throws. He was just consistently off on the deep ball.

And he forced a couple of throws that he was lucky weren't picked.

It wasn't Sawyer's "A" game, but if that's your "B" or "C" game, you're a pretty damn good quarterback.

After running about 80 yards -- much of that laterally -- giving players behind the play time to catch up to him?

Baldwin was one of the fastest players on the field today -- as he always is.

Consistent pass interference will drive down a completion percentage

Just looking at the stats it looks like a game we should have won or at least been very close in.

Of course these stats don't show the hidden yardage of the kickoff return and pick six.

He did okay but he also let a lot on the bone. I like his grit but execution was poor and the refs helped by not making calls

Candidly, out of the six straight conference wins we had only ONE won their Bowl game, TCU vs La (a G5 team).

I think that states all one needs to know about Baylor and the Big 12. It's a bitter pill, I wish it was different, but Baylor is just horribly average at best. EVERYONE knew or felt the wishful thinking of today's game. Praying and hoping an SEC team would trip up enough for an inferior team to have a miracle. It didn't happen and the deck will always be stacked against us. We are just Baylor.

Tons of things to walk away with positive thoughts for this year. This team didn't start the year as a good team but they ended it as one. Anyone who says LSU is not good is a dufus.

Although I'd love to see a couple more larger, more physical and faster linebackers, the one area that has to be overhauled from both a coaching standpoint and a player talent standpoint for us to reach the top of the Big 12 is the secondary. Not only were they fundamentally unsound all season (coaching issue), they just aren't at a talent level that you need to actually win a Big 12 title. They aren't fast, they aren't physical, they don't have very good field vision or instincts and they have really poor technique. Maybe Gordon makes a little bit of a difference in that game, but not enough by himself to win. Get that cleaned up and we're looking really, really good.

I'm disappointed that we lost, but proud that the team didn't give up when we got so far behind. Also, I am very proud of our tremendous enthusiastic crowd. That was great! My husband and I attended the pregame alumni tailgate, and it was fantastic. Baylor does so many things in a first class way, and that makes me proud to be a graduate of such an amazing institution. I also have to add that some of the LSU fans around us were very low class and rather disgusting. I know every school has bad fans, but LSU seemed to have a bunch. Proud to be a Baylor fan any day of the week in comparison.

Oof, a lot of frustration to digest here. Too many bone head errors, can't do that against a team like LSU that has the ballers to make you pay for it.

While Robertson is by far the best and most dynamic QB we've had since Bryce Petty, his downfield accuracy needs considerable work in the off season. It wouldn't surprise me if Walker White beats him for the starting job next season. It's a gut punch watching our WRs beat their defenders only for Robertson to over throw them. It's been a problem all season long and he's not improving. That's a concern.

On the optimistic side we've acquired enough talent to legitimately compete for a conference title next season. Things are looking up for Baylor football.

Agree the team reminded me today of watching the 2010 or 2012 team. A team right on the edge of being great actually. And you can see the signs of it. It's just the parts just aren't all there yet.

If you don't have the jimmy and joes it doesn't matter who is coaching anything. I think it is a farce to believe CDA doesn't know how to coach defense. You even stated it yourself.....
Quote:

They aren't fast, they aren't physical
They are trying to rectify that via recruiting and the portal. They are no dummies. I am sure however, that they would welcome an essay from you as to how those players should be coached. Sure, we are still suffering from the ill-advised approach to the portal the two years after the championship years. But they learned and are addressing that, but it doesn't turn the ship around on a dime. I remember hearing several times from Coach that we had to play a zoned secondary because if we played man if would be even worse. And a good QB can pick a zone apart. They know the situation. They don't have to be told by neophytes on a message board. (And include myself in that description.)
