I made a video at work for Cooper Flagg's 19th birthday. His 9 best plays of the season. This kid is so insane already.

Recent rumors point to a potential major Mavs-Hawks trade centered around Anthony Davis, with Atlanta exploring acquiring him from Dallas by sending back young pieces like 2024 No. 1 pick Zaccharie Risacher, Kristaps Porzingis, and guard Luke Kennard, plus draft picks, while Dallas gets a potential future star in Risacher and Porzingis, though the Mavs might prefer to see their current lineup with Kyrie Irving and rookie Cooper Flagg first.

I'd take whatever I could get for AD at this point. No matter how far it falls below the value we originally gave up for him....

Atlanta may want Trae Young gone. I don't want him, but Minn wants a PG

I think you need to get back a functional big. Worried Lively is AD part 2

The Dallas Mavericks have narrowed their focus to two locations in the city of Dallas for their new arena, but a decision may not be made until July 1.

In an interview with The Dallas Morning News on Tuesday, Mavericks CEO Rick Welts said, "We have identified, with the city, two city of Dallas locations that we are focusing all our time and attention on now, and hoping to bring one of them to success."

The two locations the Mavericks have zeroed in on are downtown and the Valley View Center property, a sprawling 110-acre site at the corner of Preston Road and Interstate 635.

The land where City Hall resides is one possible downtown location, but the city is still having conversations on whether to preserve or demolish the I.M. Pei-designed structure.

No decision on the site for a new arena is imminent for the Mavericks, who plan to move into a new facility when their lease with the American Airlines Center expires in 2031.

Welts had previously said the team planned to announce the location of a new arena by the end of March. That timeline has changed.

"Right now, our hope is somewhere around July 1, the end of the NBA season, that we are in position to be able to make a decision," Welts told The News.

"But a lot of that is out of our control, out of the city's control. I've been out there saying first quarter [of the year] before. We are not going to make first quarter. Another two or three months after that," he added.

"We want to open in 2031. That means we're on the clock. Sounds like a long time, but for a 50-acre mixed-use entertainment district, an arena, public gathering places we're on the clock."

Anthony Davis traded. Wizards.

The Mavericks have agreed to trade 10-time All-Star big man Anthony Davis to the Wizards in an eight-player blockbuster designed to maximize Dallas' flexibility to build around star rookie Cooper Flagg, sources told ESPN.

The Mavs will send Davis and guards Jaden Hardy, D'Angelo Russell and Dante Exum to the Wizards for Khris Middleton, AJ Johnson, Malaki Branham, Marvin Bagley III, two first-round draft picks and three second-rounders, sources said.

The first-round picks the Wizards included in the deal are the Thunder's 2026 selection and the Warriors' top-20-protected pick in 2030, according to sources.

The Mavs had been aggressively exploring the market for Davis since the early November firing of former general manager Nico Harrison, a decision governor Patrick Dumont made in large part due to the fan backlash stemming from last year's trade of perennial MVP candidate Luka Doncic to the Lakers.

Davis, the centerpiece of the return in the Doncic trade, was limited to only 29 games in a Mavs uniform due to a variety of injuries. He is owed $58.5 million next season, has a player option for $62.8 million in 2027-28 and is eligible to sign a contract extension in August. Davis has been out since early January due to ligament damage in his left hand.

Davis landing with the Wizards marks the second decorated, albeit injured, star player acquired this season by Washington. The rebuilding Wizards also traded for Hawks star Trae Young last month, but the veteran guard has not played since December because of knee and quadriceps injuries.

The Mavs also shed Hardy's $6 million salary and Russell's $6 million player option for next season in a trade built around the expiring contracts of Middleton, Branham and Bagley.

The Mavs dropped below the luxury tax this season with the trade, according to ESPN's Bobby Marks. Dallas' payroll next season dipped to approximately $150 million in guaranteed money, giving the Mavs flexibility in an offseason in which they will likely have another lottery draft pick.

The Wizards dealt for Davis with the intent to be competitive next season after a lengthy rebuilding process. A team source said Washington prioritized keeping its own premium draft picks and homegrown young talent -- including Alex Sarr, Kyshawn George, Bilal Coulibaly and Tre Johnson -- out of the trade.

Davis, 32, is averaging 20.1 points and 11.1 rebounds in 20 games this season.

After last season's Doncic trade, Harrison declared that the Mavs would have a championship window of "three to four years" with a roster led by Davis and star guard Kyrie Irving, but that duo only played one game together.

Davis suffered an adductor strain in his Mavs debut that sidelined him for six weeks, and Irving sustained a torn ACL less than a month later, an injury that he has yet to return from.

The Mavs' remarkable fortune in the draft lottery, winning the No. 1 pick despite having only a 1.8% chance, gave the franchise the opportunity to draft a generational talent in Flagg and shift the focus to building around him.

Flagg, 19, has lived up to the hype despite an injury-ravaged supporting cast, averaging 20.1 points, 6.7 rebounds and 4.2 assists per game so far this season.

The Mavericks (19-31) entered Wednesday on a five-game losing streak and are 12th in the Western Conference, 3.5 games behind the 10th-place Trail Blazers (23-28).

The Mavericks will receive the 2026 first round pick originating with the Oklahoma City Thunder, along with the top-20 protected 2030 first round pick from the Golden State Warriors. Dallas will also receive second rounders in 2026 (Phoenix Suns), 2027 (Chicago Bulls) and 2029 (Houston Rockets).

So it would seem that most analysts are saying that Dallas did this for two reasons, dumping that massive AD deal and getting teh two #1s. And Dallas may do something else in the next 24 hours. We are now below the salary apron. What can you do with it?

Add - yesterday there wasnt much of anyone that any other team would give up anyone for AD

There are about 5 players in the next draft that are outstanding. YOu dont want to be 6th in terms of teaming a good one with Cooper

Probably hold onto AJ Johnson (low cost player, see if he turns out to be good). The rest are free agents after this season, I would expect them to be gone then (if not sooner) and free up that salary (especially Middleton's salary).

The top 2026 NBA prospects are led by a dominant trio: Darryn Peterson (Kansas), AJ Dybantsa (BYU), and Cameron Boozer (Duke), often considered the potential top three picks, with Caleb Wilson (UNC) and Kingston Flemings (Houston) rounding out the consensus top five, though depth and emerging freshmen like Illinois' Keaton Wagler and Washington's Hannes Steinbach are making the draft class strong and unpredictable.

Those 2 first round picks should really have an asterisk, because the likelihood of the Warriors' top-20 protected pick ever conveying is slim. The Curry era will be over by 2030 and they don't have much hope of being any good once he's no longer in the building.

Feels like Dallas is gonna go as young as they can. They're getting tired of the 800 year old signings as of late. However Kyrie is looking like he might have some good decades ahead of him....;^)
