DeAndre Jordan has verbally agreed to a one-year deal worth around $24.1 million to join the Dallas Mavericks.
The Mavericks are basically matching the amount of money that DJ opted out of with the Clippers. Jordan will be 30 in July and really relies on his athleticism, so maybe that's why he's not getting a long-term deal here. With no competition to speak of at center, Jordan will once again be a great option for owners punting free throws for his rebounds (15.2), FG% (64.5) and blocks (0.9). It'll be interesting to see what kind of chemistry he has with Dennis Smith Jr. and Luka Doncic.

The Mavs are expected to use the remaining $5 million of their salary cap space to re-sign Dirk Nowitzki.

The Mavs' declined their team-option on Nowitzki before free agency began in order to give Dallas some flexibility, and now that they've verbally come to terms with DeAndre Jordan, they'll lock up their franchise cornerstone for one more year. He'll be entering his age-40 season and is past his days of relevancy in fantasy hoops. As a side note, the Mavs will need to renounce their cap holds on Seth Curry and Yogi Ferrell to get this deal done, so those two are likely done in Dallas.

Salah Mejri has re-signed with the Mavericks.
Mejri's contract with Dallas will reportedly be a one-year, $1.6 million deal. The Mavericks brought Mejri back to help ease Luka Doncic's transition to the NBA, as the two were teammates on Real Madrid, but Mejri's impact in fantasy hoops will be negligible as long as DeAndre Jordan is healthy.

The Mavericks are interested in re-signing FA Seth Curry.
Curry didn't play in 2017-18 due to a stress fracture in his left tibia. His agent said in June that Curry was cleared for full basketball activities in May, so presumably he'll be ready to go for training camp no matter where he signs. Dallas has made multiple moves already, retaining Dirk Nowitzki and Salah Mejri, and they still have a decision to make regarding FA Yogi Ferrell.

from Fish...

Dallas next summer can have $87 million in cap room. Eighty-Seven Million Dollars.Jordan, Wes Matthews, Harrison Barnes, Dwight Powell, Dirk Nowitzki, JJ Barea and so many more Mavs can be coming off the books that Dallas' only commitments could be to Luka Doncic, Dennis Smith Jr., Jalen Brunson and cap room. And this won't be "Plan Powder'' in its previous form; that seemed an all-eggs-in-one-basket approach to signing stop-gap players on cheap one-year deals while waiting for a big fish. The Mavs' move here, and potential moves in summer of 2019, mean an improved level of competitiveness now with a a promising young centerpiece on the roster (featuring "Interchangeable'' Luka) ... and incredible roster flexibility later.

Wesley Matthews Trade?

But a source close to the Mavs' situation says Dallas is continuing to be open to a trade-away of Matthews that could be labeled "special."Isn't Love, a five-time All-Star, "special" enough? Not to Dallas, for a simple reason: That $87-million "Plan Powder"-like mindset for next summer (details here) means that the ideal candidate in trade, the "special" candidate, would either be a young star (tough to get) or a player with just one year left on his deal. How important is the one-year-deal thinking? It's part of the reason it's the length of the contract provided Jordan.

A source close to the Mavs' situation says Dallas is continuing to be open to a trade-away of Matthews that could be labeled "special."

Norton Cuban passes - Mark's pop.

Quote:

Norton Cuban died Tuesday in Dallas. He was 92. Mark Cuban told The News earlier this year that his father was in declining health, due mostly to age. Another Cuban brother, Brian, told The News on Thursday that Norton's heart simply gave out.

"Everyone he met was his friend," Brian Cuban said. "He was charismatic. He took life as it came and he always had a smile. He was just a very loving, caring person.

"And he absolutely lived for his sons. . . Literally, everything he did was for us. That continued up until the last moment."

Brian Cuban said the family already has held a private service. In contrast to the highly visible life of Mark, and to a lesser extent sons Brian and Jeff, Norton Cuban never was in the spotlight.

The Mavericks organization did not announce Norton Cuban's passing, but when word spread Thursday about his death, his sons felt a public outpouring of condolences, which in themselves were tributes to Norton.

"I'm glad there is a public celebration of my dad's life," Brian said. "This is his obit. I'm glad there is a public celebration because I want people to know what a wonderful, loving, caring person my father was

Mavs, Clips make international swap; Johnathan Motley headed to LA
Jul 23, 2018

DALLAS -- The Dallas Mavericks have acquired the rights to forward Maarty Leunen and cash from the LA Clippers for two-way forward Johnathan Motleyand the rights to guard Renaldas Seibutis.

Leunen has spent the past 10 seasons playing professionally in Turkey, Italy and Germany, most recently with Italy's S.S. Felice Scandone. A native of Washington state, Leunen was drafted by Houston in the second round out of Oregon 10 years ago. His rights were traded to the Clippers in 2016.

Motley signed a two-way contract with Dallas after going undrafted out of Baylor last year. He appeared in 11 games as a rookie, averaging 8.7 points and 4.5 rebounds.

Seibutis was a second-round pick by the Mavericks in 2007. The Lithuanian has been playing professionally overseas for 16 years. Seibutis spent this past season with Spain's Basket Zaragoza.

Dallas also signed guard-forward Ding Yanyuhang, who has played professionally in China for seven years. Ding was with the Mavericks during the summer league last year.

defensively, they have a lot of work to do but DeAndre Jordan gives you a better defense just by having a solid rim defender.

Matthews is a solid NBA player but it was tough watching him turn it over (Smith and Doncic did as well down the stretch) and then have no chance at stopping Derozan. Would have liked to have seen Finney Smith on him.

Season is pretty much shot, you know you drafted a young stud this past season in Doncic. Why not make the trade?

Smith didnt get along with several folk. Jordan wasnt the same guy. A couple of first rounds that arent in the first half of the draft usually arent that great anyway. We shall see where they turn out

The trade to acquire Zach Randolph and Justin Jackson now has the Mavericks with $13.1M in room to either use at the deadline or up until June 30. Dallas now projects to have $30M in room for 2019-20. That number could increase to $40M if Dwight Powell opts-out of his contract.
