Running from the debates was a huge mistake and unforced error by Paxton...

Not living in Texas I was not aware of all of the Ken Paxton news. A friend forwarded the following from Tom Nesbitt, who explains why Paxton is afraid to debate.

With early voting starting yesterday in Texas, I want to share a personal experience in the hope that my Republican friends will vote against Ken Paxton for U.S. Senate. By not voting for Ken Paxton, you will keep faith with the most conservative values of all: the rule of law and the punishment of public corruption.
For the last 6 years I have been honored to represent Blake Brickman, a conservative Republican lawyer who Ken Paxton personally recruited to join the Texas Office of the Attorney General in early 2020. Shortly after joining the AG's office, Blake was appalled by what he found there: grotesque corruption by Ken Paxton himself. It was clear that, among other things, the AG was abusing his office, taking bribes to provide favorable legal outcomes for an Austin real estate developer.
Blake and the other 7 most senior members of Ken Paxton's staff all loyal Republicans -- put fidelity to the values of their party above loyalty to a politician and reported Paxton's corruption to law enforcement.
Their reports and our Whistleblower lawsuit led the Texas House of Representatives to impeach Ken Paxton because of his corruption, with 70% of Republicans in the Texas House deciding he was unfit for office.
The evidence of Ken Paxton's corruption is overwhelming. To this day, Paxton has never defended himself or rebutted the evidence. Ken Paxton plead the 5th and refused to testify at his impeachment trial. So did his mistress. So did the felon donor who, according to the Republican-passed Articles of Impeachment, bribed Paxton.
In our Whistleblower lawsuit, Ken Paxton surrendered his client, the people of Texas, to a $6.7 million court judgment so that Paxton could avoid answering my questions about his corruption under oath. That, by itself, was an act of legal malpractice and cowardice too astonishing to be imagined, yet Ken Paxton did it.
This is why Paxton won't debate his opponent or be interviewed by anyone outside of friendly media. Paxton cannot deny his own abject corruption.
If we elevate to high office those, like Ken Paxton, who engage in such rank public corruption, we will be lost as a people self-governed under the rule of law. My Republican friends, I hope you will, with fidelity to the highest ideals of your party, vote against Ken Paxton.

Let's fact check this

The letter mixes accurate procedural facts with strong interpretive claims and some overstatements.
Accurate or largely accurate:
Blake Brickman and several other senior staff (loyal Republicans) reported Paxton to the FBI in 2020 over his relationship with Austin real estate investor Nate Paul. They alleged Paxton used his office to help Paul.
The Texas House impeached Paxton in 2023. A large majority of House Republicans voted for it (reports put it around 60 of 85 Republicans, or roughly 70% of the GOP caucus).
The Texas Senate acquitted him on all counts after a trial. Only two Republican senators voted to convict on any article.
A Travis County judge in 2025 awarded the four whistleblowers roughly $6.66.7 million after finding the Attorney General's Office violated the Texas Whistleblower Act by firing them. Paxton's office did not contest the facts or liability at that stage, and he later dropped his appeal. Taxpayers are on the hook if the Legislature funds the judgment.
Paxton did not testify at the impeachment trial. His lawyers successfully argued he could not be compelled to testify (citing Fifth Amendment protections in what they described as a criminal-style proceeding). He did not "plead the Fifth" on the stand because he never took the stand.
Overstated or one-sided:
"Grotesque corruption," "taking bribes," and "overwhelming evidence" are the whistleblowers' and House managers' characterization. The Senate (controlled by Republicans) rejected that conclusion. No criminal charges resulted from the FBI referral.
"Paxton plead the 5th" is imprecise. He avoided testifying; he was not forced to invoke the privilege under oath in open court during the trial.
The claim that he "surrendered his client, the people of Texas, to a $6.7 million court judgment so that Paxton could avoid answering questions under oath" reflects the whistleblowers' lawyers' spin. Paxton's side framed it as avoiding a fight in a hostile Travis County court after the political process (impeachment) had already cleared him.
"He has never defended himself or rebutted the evidence" is false. He denied the allegations, called the impeachment a political hit, and was acquitted. Whether the denials were persuasive is debatable; the claim that he offered none is not.

Bottom line: The underlying events happenedwhistleblower reports, impeachment by a Republican House, acquittal by the Senate, and a large civil judgment the office did not fight on the merits. The letter treats the House's findings and the whistleblowers' allegations as proven facts that the Senate wrongly ignored, and it frames Paxton's legal choices as admissions of guilt. The Senate's acquittal and the lack of criminal charges are material context the letter largely dismisses. Whether that package shows "rank public corruption" or a politically charged dispute that ended in acquittal is the core disagreement.

Democrats are mad Abbott took money from data center donors after he called for ending their tax breaks, paused grid approvals, and said they dug their own grave.

Donors give to stay in the room with the guy setting the rules. That's not corruption. Abbott's position is still the same: pay your own way, protect the grid, bring your own water. The Tribune's list is broad and Hinojosa inflated the number. Normal politics.

If Abbott was serious about regulating data centers in Texas and not just playing politics before an election, he would have called a special session. No governor has ever called more special sessions than Greg Abbott but he won't call one for data centers bcs he profits from data centers being built on top of your house!

Don't even get me started on how he turned Texas into Hyperbad, India!
OffshoreBear

Abbott already told the agencies to hit pause on new data center permits and grid hookups while they check power, water, and neighborhood impacts. He's also said they need to pay for their own infrastructure, reuse water, lose the tax breaks, and stay out of people's neighborhoods.

You don't need a special session for that. Calling one right before an election just gives Democrats a stage. And "Hyperbad, India" is just sour grapes because Texas keeps adding jobs and investment while places like California keep bleeding them.

If all these jobs are going to H1B foreign workers and not to Texans then I dont want them here! And many Texans agree with me! Texas has plenty of money... what we dont have anymore is culture.

Abbott is a clown and a liar. I was happy to vote against him.

When a Leftist says they "love trans kids" it's safe to assume that they want to give such kids whatever they want, even if it's radical and they are not old enough to make life changing decisions. Other statements by Talarico confirms the prudence of that assumption: he supports "transing kids" (poisoning and mutilating) and he has said that parents who try to prevent this are abusing them. He has that 100% opposite of the truth.

When a radical Leftist loves trans kids, has a favorite drag queen, & fully supports all of the alphabet mafia's agenda then they are a threat to all families. These are all based upon statements he has made publicly and not too long ago. The intelligent course is to keep such people out of power in any capacity, especially some place like the senate where they can do substantial damage. Washington already has too many perverts, groomers, pedos, and other freaks. No one should want to send more there or give them power.

2025 Legislative Vote: Talarico voted in favor of an amendment offered by State Rep. Jolanda Jones to House Bill 1106 that would have explicitly classified rejecting a child's gender identity or sexual orientation as child abuse under Texas law.

Plus, remember Elon lost one of his kids to the gender ideology cult.

Talarico's radicalism is across the board. He has said that he wants open borders (a giant welcome mat), he's an anti-capitalist, wants to damage the oil and gas energy (major drivers of the economy), etc.

When they tell you who they are, believe them.

It's amazing how many goobers want to believe the Talarico had some sort of epiphany of moderation in the last few months.

If you want to vote for him, fine. But just admit to yourself that you're voting for someone of extreme woke left-wing ideology with all of that entails, including higher taxes, open borders, pro transgender cult, the whole thing.

The Republican Party, enabled by Trump, picked the single most dishonest and untrustworthy candidate possible to run for Senate in the State of Texas. It is almost as if they are mocking and making fun of us. Very similar to the Dems blunder of picking Harris to run for President.

No more. This is going to be a wake-up call election. Way past due.

I'm not going to lecture anyone on voting for Talarico.... Trump made the decision difficult for me bcs of his wars for Israel. Talarico would vote to end them... but I had to remind myself senate terms are 6 years, not two years, and we will probably have a Democrat president in 2028 after Trump betrayed his base and wrecked the country for Israel... we will need checks and balances on that Democrat President in 2028...... just my thoughts.
