FYI - Dr Odyssey, is NOTHING like working on a cruise ship. I spent the 80s working for Carnival and RCCL on board 11 of their vessels. It's not even remotely close

Interested in any reviews y'all may have of Landman, which just kicked off on Paramount+

It's another Taylor Sheridan effort (set in West Texas oil country ... of course) and has a proper cast (Billy Bob Thornton, Ali Larter, Jon Hamm, Demi Moore).

Thinking about investing some time in that and hoping Thornton (if it's good) doesn't pitch a hizzy fit like Costner did with Yellowstone ... which kinda ruined the series climax for me (I'm boycotting the last season, at least for now -- I can pitch a hizzy fit too if I wanna ... However, I'll probably cave in eventually to see if Beth ends up killing anybody or some wayward geology students from Univ. of Wyoming, Boise State or somesuch accidently stumble across the Train Station and some Feds finally start putting things together).

Anyway, heard some good initial reviews of Landman ... and I need to get caught up with Tulsa King as well (yah, seems I'm a Sheridan fan).

I think Landman is pretty good. I am caught up to current episode. Billy Bobs character does not seem to be a true land man but the episodes are entertaining nonetheless. I too appear to be a Taylor Sheridan fan - just finished season 2 of Tulsa King.

Also watching Dark Winds - very entertaining. Just wrapped up season 1.

I didn't think it was horrible but it was basically a remake of the first movie. Not really much point to it on that basis.

Just watched the first episode of Landman. Pretty good. I worked part-time in college 'for a very short' while at Rocket Workover outside of San Diego, Texas. Reminded me of how I got pranked. They sent me to clean out an old 'hole' (for an oil well) covered by plywood. Pulled off the plywood and it was full to the brim with rattlers! They had a good laugh on that, handed me a hand pump full of gasoline and told to get rid of the rattlers...

Just saw Masters of the Air. Primarily about B-17 crews over Europe.

Good. Not Band of Brothers good but enjoyed it. Thought it better than The Pacific.

So, after barely going to the movies for months, I've made four movies in the last 10 days.

Red One--saw this tonight. More clever than brilliant. Has some good concepts. Gets bogged down at times. Reasonably fun story but not as much so as the trailer made it appear. More of a "Christmas thriller" without much suspense than anything else.

Best Christmas Pageant Ever -- if you've read the book, you know the story here. It's close to a line-by-line telling. They did throw a couple of small curves to the story--one of which I really liked. Good family comedy.

Bonhoffer--inspiring version of his personal story. A "Christian movie" but cut more from the mold of Amazing Grace or Chariots of Fire than the more preachy kind. Does a good job of showing his growing worries about Germany and the German church and the struggles that led to. Well acted and a good story--a bit heavy on flashbacks, sometimes not leaving it clear exactly when something was happening.

Wicked--better than I expected, actually. Not sure why a 2 1/2 hour play needs two 2 1/2 hour movies to tell its story. I don't see how they're going to make a good "part 2" movie. Still, the first part (it ends at the show's intermission) was done well. The key players are good, and--unusual for a lot of movie musicals--they hired people who could SING. The music is extremely well done. If you're actually unfamiliar with the play, it's a post-modern, what if we told the Wizard of Oz story from the Wicked Witch's perspective, type story. Generally, well done in that regard.

I worked on a book that I never finished about Bonhoeffer. One amazing dude. Stood up to the Nazis until he and the German Admiral Canaris were hung shortly before the Allies arrived at Flossenberg. Lutheran pastor.

Saw Wicked, it was okay. Not a huge Broadway fan so for me it would have been better for me without all the vocals.

Elevation with Anthony Mackie and Morena Baccarin. Morena is the superhot gal from Firefly. She's getting a little longer in the tooth for those sexy outfits you used to see her in, but it's not a bad part for her

Finally watched the final season of Yellowstone. Pretty good way to end the series

The studio has locked down three of the stars including Kelly Reilly and Cole Hauser for a spinoff. One more but I cant remember his name. Still not been announced though.
