Coach needs to make a statement, even if it is extremely brief. Just to clarify!

Clarify what?

"Yes, Baylor Nation, I interviewed for a job I'd rather have, and would still take if they end up offering me. If they hire someone else instead, I'm super excited to be your football coach in 2018!"

He can't say anything without looking even worse until he's out of the running on that job.
easy "K K." He can simply speak from the "horse's mouth" and clarify that he received a call, was flattered/honored to receive a call of inquiry but that his total commitment is to Baylor university and all the young men that have signed on to play football for this great institution of higher learning. No worries. We have just begun.
That kind of "clarification" would seem quite obvious to me. But that's just me.

If that's what happened and the deal was dead or nonexistent, sure he could say that and would've last night.

Since he hasn't, what does that tell us?

Really pathetic. Can't spin this one. He's not doing it for a raise from Baylor obviously.
Dude is young and the league likes him even with a pathetic performance last year. They will look favorably on anything 6-6 or better. So worst case.. whole system is completely changed by this crew... they go 6-6 ... bolt to the league. And the program has absolutely nothing to show for it.
That is my fear...he implements a system that only works with him and his staff. He bolts at the first sign of success, then we have to start over from square 1 with a completely different system all over again.

If we get some sign of success, I'll be happy then take it from there.

The current staff is putting some hay in the barn as far as talent goes.

I wonder if Rhule got down on his knees and slobbered all over the interviewer like Briles did when he was campaigning for the UT job.

Briles wannabes here won't admit it, but Briles embarrassed himself by doing that because it wasn't a proud approach. He basically turned into the coaching equivalent of a Harry Hines prostitute begging for the job and telling them how bad he wanted it.

I think they were taken aback by how desperate he could be trying to pimp himself out.

Key difference here, the Colts called Rhule. They didn't need to find a back alley to screw in like Briles.

The silence is strange. Baylor acknowledges he is looking. Could it perhaps something came up and that Baylor has learned its lesson on mishandling Briles and is attempting to part ways with Rhule in a way similar to Stoops exit at OU (except retirement is not credible for Rhule)? Give him a little time to find a new gig if he cant, then go public?

In the business world it's possible to interview without your current employer knowing... but if they do then your ass could be on the chopping block.

Don't mind these middle level management dorks. Trying to equate their corporate experiences with this level are foolish

wait, wait, wait.

We went from "He was contacted." to "He was looking."

Do you have any facts to support a continued search?

If you don't, you're full of ***** I already know that, but whatever.

Why? You don't even know what they talked about.

The Chicago Bears just hired Mark Helfrich as their OC after being out of coaching for a year and failing as a HC at Oregon. Coaching circles are tight and nepotistic, one bad year at Baylor does not a career define.

And Rhule handling an inquiry from Indy diplomatically much the same way Teaff did USC is no biggie, in fact, it's a good thing when other people want your coaches, it's a bad thing if your coach is actively looking to get out.

And it's very doubtful Rhule contacted Indy, he had no leverage to make the first move unless his cajones are truly Texas-sized.

Hahah, don't you wish that's what he said.

He reached out to one of the donors. Called him up. Told him if they offered him the job he'd take it. The conversation continued and Texas wanted to discuss further so they flew their AD in a donor's jet to the BAYLOR bowl game, where Briles met them.

Even the players were surprised at how quickly he could turn and most expected him to be gone.

Go find the pre bowl game interview where he was asked about the job. He immediately knew he was busted.

Our team tanked a bowl game because Briles quit doing his job.

Not the story I heard. Word has it that after being contacted by Texas, he was pissed and insulted he had to interview for the job and felt like he should be offered the job if they truly were interested.

What is it with you guys? Briles is a demon for talking to Texas yet Matt Rhule is sweet and innocent and it is no problem if he interviews for another job with the Indianapolis Colts. If you want to just be a Briles hater, be one. But don't say what Briles did was wrong and what Rhule has done is just fine. It is the same damn thing.

How long do you think the OU faithful would have tolerated Stoops had he done this with UT? My guess is about five minutes.

There's a 31-year-old with no prior head coaching experience at any level on the Los Angeles Rams sideline and Mark Helfrich just became the OC in Chicago after not being in football in any capacity for the last year once he failed as HC in Oregon after Chip Kelly, who was allowed to fail with two different NFL teams.

At the time, no. The last two years, yes.

Not many programs would have allowed him to hire his son and son in law, paid him $6 mil for getting beat by UCF and allowed him to contribute zero to the U outside of football. For $6 mil, at least hold a banquet.

Hell, even Gary Patterson is active in Fort Worth charities. Briles didn't do *****

I think they were taken aback by how desperate he could be trying to pimp himself out.

Key difference here, the Colts called Rhule. They didn't need to find a back alley to screw in like Briles.
LMAO!! Please, only a moron believes that to be the case.

No really, your credibility on this board is fantastic.
No, I think it's better that you keep telling us how an NFL franchise decided they first wanted to reach out to a college coach with a handful of years of HC experience coming off of a 1 win season and having only 1 year experience coaching in the NFL as an OL coach to interview for their HC position. Please, that makes a lot more sense.

It's not inconceivable or even unrealistic that a team contacted a 42-year-old Tom Coughlin disciple and put out some sort of inquiry.
Both Sean McVay and Helfrich showed a lot of success as OC's, especially McVay, prior to being hired. The Helfrich hire is very much the exception, not the Rhule. And Rhule is coming off of a 1 win season. Just no.
