I much prefer living in large cities. I could and would not live in a small town. To each their own.

That's the key: give people the freedom to make their own choices. I would hate to be in a large city where traffic & crime are constant problems and the cost of living is much higher. But I do like access to museums, symphonies, opera houses, & other cultural options along with international airports. People will decide based upon their own preferences. That's what freedom looks like.

The problem is with politicians trying to decide for everyone & abusing govt power to force everyone into their choices.

I lived in Dallas for basically my whole life until I left there 8 years ago. I dont want to ever live in a mega metro area again. Small city life is for me. I dont really plan on moving again but if I do it will be to an even smaller town like Bluffton, SC or Fernandina Beach, FL. Of course Bluffton is right by Hilton Head and like 40 mins to Savannah so its not exactly like a country town or anything and same w/ Fernandina bc its like 30 mins to Jacksonville.

I like living in smaller or medium sized cities within a reasonably short distance of a larger city, but not a suburb. My home town, New Braunfels, is a good example and probably classifies as an exurb. Waco is ok too because it's within 2 hours of the Metroplex & Austin. Bryan / College Station also fits. I like a city to have basic amenities without huge traffic issues, crime problems, or a high cost of living.

Texas has a lot of cities that would be suitable.

Maybe. It's getting awfully expensive to live in some of those cities. COL in Waco is probably close to 100% higher than it was in 2005. I was renting a 4BD house on an acre just outside Woodway for $400/mo. I bet that house would sell for over $300k easily now and I could have bought it for $100ish.

Bidenflation has made it expensive to live everywhere.

He's not the only one to blame for that.

As cities, like Waco, grow and become viable alternatives to living in places like DFW or Austin, cost of living rises.

Magnolia didn't help (only in terms of pricing) by making Waco cool and hip.

Then you add Cali transplants.

All of that massively drives up pricing.

Frankly, you could also add Trump's historically low interest rates as a massive driver of home price inflation.
