"I'm asking what specifically we're measuring when we say the economy is objectively worse."

That's actually not what your original question was, the objective measures language comes from my response and is a different ask. You were originally asking for details about why the GOP don't have a response on economic issues right now. I generally answered that (tariffs, Iran, Paxton's lackluster economic platform, etc).

For objective measures: inflation is higher now than it was when he took over (and getting worse), employment rate is holding but job creation is way below the Biden era (and not just the initial COVID boom either), federal deficit is more than it was when he took over, GDP is lackluster (far below what was explicitly promised by this admin). Really only the stock indexes are doing somewhat well, but observers are all watching with trepidation because everything is so precarious.

You say you aren't defending anyone, the classic "just asking questions" line. Ok, what's the point you're trying to arrive at then?

You're playing a little fast and loose with what these "objective measures" actually establish.

Take inflation. While the current year-over-year inflation rate is higher than it was in January 2025, that's a remarkably convenient starting point because it ignores what happened to the price level during the preceding four years.

Inflation averaged about 4.9% during the Biden years, compared with about 1.9% during Trump's first term, and consumer prices rose cumulatively by roughly 21% over the Biden years. Current inflation is 3.4%. So, yes, it has ticked back up. But pointing to 3.4% today as proof of how much worse things have become while ignoring the enormous inflationary run-up that preceded it is a fairly selective use of the data, but no surprise coming from you. I would not expect an intellectually honest discussion with you.

That's the only way they can play.

They sort of forget about:

1. Inflation was the worst in history under China Joe

2. They told us then that inflation was actually good

3. Remember when China Joe told all those blue collar workers to "learn to code"

4. The climate change hoax wiped out more blue collar jobs than anything since NAFTA

5. The left actively supports importing legal and illegal aliens to displace American workers

There's no hidden point I'm trying to arrive at. I didn't vote for Trump in any of the three presidential elections in which he was on the ballot, and I voted in all three. I'm a free-trade guy who dislikes tariffs and I'm hardly a fan of Trump's expansive view of executive power.

You said the economy was objectively worse. I asked what measures you were using. You answered: inflation, job creation, deficits and GDP. That's the information I was asking for. "Just asking questions" doesn't always have to be a rhetorical device. Sometimes somebody is actually asking a question.

Then again, the slate of candidates slumming for office proves that by itself.

And Paxton is too much of a coward to confront him about it face to face. Do y'all ever feel any shame or embarrassment for supporting such whiny biches?

Let me guess, your response is going to contain references to trans kids, drag queens, and/or a non-binary deity.

We know the alternative to the Republican.

Better Paxton, who will at least pursue good policies than Talarico, who will surely do great and real damage to real people.

Why?

Citizens serious about governance and leadership do not nominate candidates like Paxton and Talerico. Neither do they allow political parties to fob these sorts of characters on the public.

Nothing funnier than the older folks enjoying the quality of life medicare and social security allows them to have, while crying about "socialism".

James Talarico isn't talking about the government taking over any industries, it's Trump's government taking stakes in tech corps. This country needs some serious anti-trust and consumer-rights enforcement, to go along with a re-dedication to pursuing white collar financial crimes and corruption.

None of that is socialism, it's what healthy capitalism needs, and only one side advocates for it at all anymore.

If the government would have let me opt out of SS I would have, and had much more to show for it. That said, most would be stupid to turn it down. There is no conflict with ideas just like there is no choice to opt out.

And don't call SS government cheese, it is paid for by the recipient (with a few rare exceptions) and has a really poor ROI

Some people like to justify every genuine entitlement (like Social Security for which we all have been paying our entire working lives) and legitimate government functions (like fire departments & libraries) as examples of socialism when they are nothing of the kind. It's a typical propaganda device designed to muddy the waters and confuse.

He should have prayed that this man finds his way to repentance and shame. He should have rebuked him. Look, I have no illusions about what Talarico stands for and would be like as a Senator - He'd be a woke disaster. But the reason he's going to win is because Ken is who he is and because the GOP in Texas can't think any further than they are told to by Trump. That's why Ken was acquitted by the Senate, and that's why Ken won the primary.

The reason Talarico might win is bcs Trump started another never-ending war in the middle east for Israel(something he campaigned against) and sent gas prices soaring...

If the idiotic Iran war doesnt happen, Paxton wins by at least the same margin Cruz won by in 2018.

lol. No, and yet another dumb take, but not surprising for the Brownshirts on this board.

What is dumb about it?

Use your words blue hair.

The war isn't going to cost the GOP any safe Senate seats other than in Texas. Paxton's unique ethical problems, laziness as a campaigner, and general *******ry are the reasons this is a closely contested race--not the war.

I get the sentiment but you should ask, "To whom am I ceding governance of my state and nation, and what are their convictions regarding the unique constitutional republic we inherited in 1789?"

The vote should not be over Paxton's moral status or Talarico's persona: that is a ruse which we have fallen for. The issue should be over governance convictions and commitment to those but citizens looking for simple solutions will likely not dig thru the detritus to find those, defaulting to whatever stirs their animus to the greatest extent. The Christian church, for one, ought to be noting Talerico's apparent ignorance of Scriptural context of human life as well as the lack of integrity of the pastor-grandfather-mentor in his campaign ads. The world already has the evidence of Paxton's "integrity".

You mean the Harvard educated current Seminary Student? I don't know your seminary experience, but I will certainly defer to him. I have spent some time on flights trying really understand his govt policies. I ask a level of morality in my senator. Lack of moral clarity gives you Trump. Paxton is a stone cold crook!
