I am an authority on dog days. I spent many an August evening in the outfield bleachers of Arlington Stadium. Spending $2 to experience 100+ degree heat and see a team 20 games out seemed like a fair exchange, considering I usually had a whole section to myself.

I suppose every dog has its day, but I didn't see it. Except maybe in 1986.

Anyway, I'm pretty sure dog days are the same as human days, there's just fewer of them in a dog year. They could be squeezing some more of them in at night, but I doubt it.

According to my calculations, there are about 52 5/28 days in a Dog Year. So, 2,840 days works out to about 54.4 dog years.

Now, we're down to 2,839 days, which is still 54.4 dog years.

I, too, spent several days in Arlington stadium in the heat of the summer as a young lad and don't think I ever saw a victory. We did, however, plan our outings around give-away games and got plenty of miniature bats, batting helmets, and baseballs (some of them subsequently signed by a bullpen pitcher or catcher whose name was unrecognizable). No need to buy a souvenir according to the parents.

Relive the memories while we still can.
