Mesquite is good but you only need a little and it tends to get a little bitter if you smoke a long time.

Personally, I like cherry. It's easy to come by. Has light flavor and you don't have to worry about it getting bitter.

Again, depends a lot on the meat too. Some things need a little more delicate flavor.

What ever happened to Alt Rock?

From like 1998-2002 it seemed that it dominated the charts, then poof, gone pecan.

Was it a music fad?

Did the bands just run out of material?

We're there any musical acts from the period that we're actually good?

So many questions.

Reason I bring it up, I was digging through some stuff in my attic and found a Staind CD. After carefully listening to the entire thing all the way through, I was left wondering.

I've had the same thought for years. I use an oak base, and have generally used pecan and Mesquite to flavor.

I now have changed my tune.

I had some Q recently that the guy used ONLY Mesquite. And he served me the best ribs I've ever had.

Yep. Though it is fun to pop them from close range with a 444 Marlin. When they get hit with that, you ain't gotta worry about following any blood trail to find them. But you do got to worry about whether there's anything left to eat.
