The statement that a slightly sloped roof is too dangerous for people who are supposed to be the elite is laughable.

That's like saying a street is too dangerous because it has speed bumps.

It seems the sloped roof obscured the sniper teams' view of Crooks

A Washington Post analysis, based on more than 40 videos and photos, as well as satellite imagery and terrain analysis used to build a 3D model examining the rally site and shooter's position, found that the two Secret Service countersniper teams may have initially been hindered in their ability to see the shooter as he crawled up the roof due to its slanted sides. Trees near the rally likely played a part in obscuring the shooter from at least one teamassigned to detect and neutralize would-be snipers.
The Post's assessments were reviewed and corroborated by three former law enforcement officials, including two retired snipers and a former Secret Service agent, as well as a former marine sniper.
The Post's 3D model established that both units may have been hampered by the pitch of the building's roof where Crooks was found, which rises roughly 3.5 ft from its exterior walls to its peak. According to the analysis, which placed a camera at the eye view of the teams, Crooks would likely not have been visible as he crawled up the roof to take his final shooting position. The Post's reconstruction shows that the northernmost Secret Service countersniper team closest to the suspect slightly more than 400 feet away and atop an approximately 23 foot tall barn may have further struggled to see him because of two trees located between them.
The second countersniper team, located roughly 550 feet from the shooter, while farther away, could have had a less obstructed view, according to The Post's reconstruction, because they were positioned slightly to the west and the trees may not have been in their line of sight.

Ok, but usually wouldn't you block off an area that has no eyeballs on? Or, reposition one of the other anti-sniper teams to cover it? Leaving it dark? That is not SS level, hell it is not Brigade level for a TOC! Who did the preliminary work on this?

I am no expert, but this seems very unusual. Or, complacency. Another ho-hum rally and just go through the motions.

Outside the perimeter means outside the primary barricaded area. From what I've read this was an open patrolled area local LEO was responsible for, and might have even been a rest area for the officers.

Poor planning. Poor execution of duty. Poor communication. Poor coordination. Bad outcome and amazing it wasn't worse. People need to be held accountable.
I agree.

In reality, it really is probably a combination of complacency, inexperienced unprofessional personnel and bad luck. That is probably more likely than a Government deep conspiracy to kill the Nominee. But I am wrong, almost hourly according to my stock portfolio. So, what they hell do I know.

True or not its not an excuse that will NOT fly well with the average person in America or around the world.

1. It looks like a lie, "how can the most elite of USA protection units be afraid of a sloped roof? That sounds like BS"

2. If it is true, it embarrasses the organization since the most elite of USA protection units are apparently afraid of a roof like that or the corporate culture is one of "Safetyism"

I don't know how authorities defend leaving elevated ground with a clear view of the speaker 150 yards away.

The Waco article is a plausible reason why counter snipers didn't see shooter until late in the process. The pitched roof is a significant factor.

https://www.foxnews.com/us/trump-shooters-parents-called-police-hours-before-assassination-attempt

Thomas Matthew Crooks' parents contacted law enforcement Saturday hours before he opened fire on former President Trump at a Pennsylvania campaign rally, a source told Fox News.

The aspiring assassin's mother and father told local police that Crooks was missing and that they were concerned about his welfare, the source said.

It remained unclear if they knew that he was in possession of an AR-15 rifle that belonged to his father.

Police have not said what actions they took after being contacted.

It is kind of a long tweet so you'll have to click on it to read everything.

One interesting note… This guy indicates that when they were aware there was someone on the roof that one police officer boosted another up to where they could grab the roof and pull themselves up to see the shooter. I guess they were not on a ladder. That would explain better why they could not draw their weapon.

Anyone consider the implications for everyone else with a protection detail?

Biden, for example. Trump at least ducked as soon as the first shot went by, Biden would absolutely not react in anything that fast, and if someone realizes the same Secret Service standards we saw in Butler PA last Saturday might be applied to the POTUS or high-profile targets, the threat profile just went off the chart.

Sadly there's a lonnnnnng time Between now and the election and then after he's elected and based on what we've seen the DEImocrats have rotted basically every institution from private companies to federal agencies (where it started 30+ years ago, think FAA etc etc ) to academia

The main concern now between here and trumps re-election is why wouldn't they try again?

Trump needs a good taster and don't touch hands with any strangers.

Hopefully trump makes it to the election and enough people in the right are watching all the polls and ballot stuffing locations. Not certain they can run that game again.

Although the attempt to assassinate Donald Trump failed, it was part of a long and growing pattern of threats and violence that can be fatal to American society.

This need not be a plot. It may simply reflect a set of dangerous attitudes and actions that have been building for years.

On May 9, 1992, the New York Times published the names of jurors who acquitted the policemen who used force when arresting Rodney King. The story included the communities in which the jurors lived and other identifying information about them.

Whatever we may think about Rodney King, the police or the jurors, we need to think long and hard about what kind of world we are creating if jurors decide cases based on their own personal safety or that of their families.

This applies to witnesses and judges as wellincluding justices of the Supreme Court. Yet no legal action was taken when mobs gathered outside the homes of justices, in defiance of federal law.

At the Supreme Court itself, Sen. Chuck Schumer, addressing a protesting mob outside, identified two justices by name and said: "You have released the whirlwind, and you will pay the price. You will not know what hit you if you go forward with these awful decisions."

Another protesting group of critics identified both the church that another justice attended and the school her children attended. They suggested that people "voice your anger" by demonstrating there.

"Free speech" has been invoked in defense of such harassments and threats. But an illegal act does not become legal just because you use free speech while doing it. If the man trying to assassinate Donald Trump had said "I hate you" while shooting, it was still attempted murder.

Over the years, too many people have used too many clever words to play down threats and violence. "No justice, no peace" has been one of the more fashionable phrases. But some people's idea of justice is some other people's idea of injustice. Are we to condone all sorts of threats and violence unless and until there is unanimity?

If one side keeps getting away with threats and violence, it is only a matter of time before their opponents also start using threats and violence. At that point, whatever they initially disagreed about is no longer the issue. It is now a question of revenge and counter-revenge, especially for unforgivable acts on both sides. And no compromise on the original issues can stop that.

If anything positive can be salvaged from this ominous attempt on Donald Trump's life, it may be his defiant response to being shot at. It may be important to let foreign enemies know that there are still some strong American leaders that they may have to deal with.

Mr. Sowell is a senior fellow at the Hoover Institution.

Intentional negligence hoping that amateur hour would show up and succeed. Now that has failed, alternatives include a professional attempt, WW3 and a delayed election, or something like this if Trump takes power:

"Imagine, if you will, that the smartest members of the ruling class have concluded that Trump is very likely to win; imagine, further that they believe economic calamity is unavoidable or global war is inevitable or necessary. If so, then it would make sense to allow Trump to be elected and then "accelerate" progress towards these events. Why?

If there is an economic collapse under Trump's administration (perhaps due to de-dollarization), he will be blamed in the same way that Herbert Hoover was blamed for the Great Depression; and just as Hoover's economic policies were utterly discredited for generations, so too will Trump's. Moreover, the resulting economic conditions might pave the way for a new Roosevelt on the Left with the usual socialist promises to make things better."

Actually they wouldn't have to wait for de-dollarization to occur organically. They could simply wait six months or so and the media would pivot to 'Oh nooos! Tariffs have spiked inflation!". Most of the establishment GOP would go along with that narrative initially, and the Federal Reserve would use it as an excuse to raise rates another 2-3 percentage points and crash the economy.

Once you understand that the government of these former United States is now in the service of evil, you realize there are few lengths its minions will not go to in an effort to maintain power.

Sorry, just don't see this kid as a serious "plan" to assassinate the leading candidate for the Presidency. I can't see this whole thing being brought forward to real pros and them saying "Yeah, this is worth doing...". That is where the whole "deep state" Government was in on it argument falls to pieces. The resources available and this 20 year old wearing brown clothes on a white roof exposed to where people in the audience are taking pictures is the "deep state's operative" to end Trump?

There are some inconsistencies and failures in the security, but this kid was not part of anyone's plan. This was complacency, going through the motions and unprofessional behavior by the SS lead team, mixed with bad luck that a whack job decided to get in the history books. At the worst, someone in the local LEO passed along info they shouldn't. Sorry, this does not add up to "man on the grassy knoll" as much as many would like it to...

This comes back to Cheatle's resume. Her bio on the Secret Service official website tells us

"Ms. Cheatle served as Senior Director in Global Security at PepsiCo, where she was responsible for directing and implementing security protocols for the company's facilities in North America. Her role at PepsiCo involved developing risk management assessment and risk mitigation strategies."

https://www.secretservice.gov/about/leadership/director#:~:text=Kimberly%20Cheatle%20is%20the%2027th,to%20office%20September%2017%2C%202022.

That's a resume built on liability limitation and risk mitigation, not protecting the life of innocents,

She was - in my opinion obviously - the wrong hire for that position.

Would anything from her experience at PepsiCo security have involved defending threats of physical and deadly violence? I would think not.

Doesn't seem like the best resume builder for leading the Secret Service.

She had also served in the SS from Clinton, to Obama. She escorted Dick Cheney to the bunker on 9/11. She also served in their financial crimes division.
Then she of all people should have known to never leave an elevated structure untended by Secret Service agents during a situation such as this one. She should be cashiered and her retirement/pension taken away for negligence which got a citizen killed and a Prez nominee almost killed, creating the greatest Constitutional crisis in the U.S. in my lifetime.
She should be fired for sure, just stating that she did have actual SS experience.

How would that be a Constitutional crisis?
