Any speak of his travel to the riots means nothing. He has as much right to be there guarding against the rioters as the rioters had to be there rioting. Period. He had every right to use deadly force against a violent man threatening to kill him and chasing him, grabbing for his gun in his final moments. He had every right to defend himself from the man who tried to hit him in the head with a skateboard. He had every right to shoot the armed rioter who was aiming his pistol at him. The kid should walk.

No but he didn't have any reason to be there. Whether he had the right to be flaunting an AR he didn't own, in another state, was an interesting legal discussion, but the guy is an idiot who was looking for trouble. Trouble may have found him before he started his own, but he's an idiot for being there at all.

Edit: also wasn't he 17? Can we just agree that we wouldn't enjoy the results of a police force full of 17 year olds? That maybe policing should not be done by rando 17 year olds?
LOL

The kid who was on site rendering first aid and volunteering to protect private property,... "didn't have any reason to be there"...

but the violent rioters who were destroying property, setting fires and attacking people.. they definitely should have been there and been protected from people like Rittenhouse??

What planet do you live on??

Rittenhouse was invited to be on that property by the owner of that private property.. the violent rioters who were committing crimes were the ones who had no reason to be there.

Didn't the owner deny asking him? So no he wasn't invited, and he was out amongst rioters with an AR. Yeah he's an idiot. Some of you may think he was a monk medic on the beaches of Normandy, sworn to nonviolence unless attacked, rendering aid to allies and Nazis with equal measure, but that's a little different from what happened. He should never have been where he was, alone, open carrying an AR. Absolutely stupid.
He was standing outside a car dealership, attempting to protect the building and cars from being destroyed when the first guy started chasing him around the parking lot. The guy was screaming at Rittenhouse, and threatening his life. Rittenhouse was running away from the guy and finally had to shoot him once it was clear that he wasn't going to escape.
Then the crowd began to gather around and yell at Rittenhouse, who got scared and ran down the street, towards the cops who were standing at the end of the street.
While he was running down the street, several of the rioters chased after him. One of them caught up to him and hit him in the back of the head with the skateboard, knocking Rittenhouse to the ground. Then they jumped him while he was on the ground. One of the scumbags who was trying to stomp his head into the ground was shot by Rittenhouse... another dead scumbag, and another public service.
Rittenhouse is still on the ground when another guy runs up on him, this time with a gun in his hand. When he points the gun at his head, Rittenhouse shot this scumbag in the arm.
Finally, Rittenhouse is able to get up and continues to run to the cops... who tell him to get off the streets and spray him with pepper spray.

So no... he wasn't "amongst the rioters with an AR" as you described it. He was not even on the street until he was trying to run to the cops for help. He was standing on private property, in an effort to defend that property from destruction. If the rioters had just walked down the street... nothing would have ever happened. Nothing did happen until the convicted pedophile began chasing Rittenhouse around the parking lot and threatening to kill Rittenhouse.

The people who should have never been there are the pedophile, the wife beater and the criminal with the handgun.... sadly, one of those scumbags survived the justified shootings.
Or maybe all of them shouldn't have been there. And listen, you aren't there to protect something when at the first sign of action that would require defensible protection you run away. In fact his lack of being a "protector" is his best defense. He ran away from an escalating situation and they pursued him with intent to harm.
once again... incorrect.

Rittenhouse had been there all day... rendering first aid to those in need, cleaning graffiti off of private property, and putting out literal fires.

The incident began when Rittenhouse approached some of the rioters who were attempting to set property on fire (I believe it was a car). He was carrying a fire extinguisher in his hands, and the AR slung over his shoulder. When the pedophile came after him to stop him from using the fire extinguisher, Rittenhouse dropped the fire extinguisher and began to retreat back towards the building. The pedophile gave chase and eventually, Rittenhouse had to shoot the scumbag.

You guys who are in defense of the pedophile, the wife beater and the criminal with the gun should really look into the actual facts of the case.

Honestly a little shocked at how off the rails ATL is on this one. I think he's bought into the 'systematic racism' lie and holds blacks to lower standards than every other color.
Definitely not me on the lower standards. I just hate to see us elevating people in the same manner the left does. Let's not play the same absurd narrative game of the left.

A. Rioting was for no reason
B. Rioting involved destroying innocent lives
C. Young man steps into the breach left by police.

That's no false narrative. Those are facts. You are a very smart man, but you are off the rails here.

You're somehow failing to recognize that he was not chased off the property he was trying to protect, he left on his own, and was barred from returning. All of this happened because he was not with his buddies, he was out amongst the rioters.

I didn't follow the trial enough to know why he decided to leave the dealership, but he was an idiot for doing so, and you seem to be lying about him being chased out of the dealership he was protecting.

The dealership owner is on the record stating that he never asked Rittenhouse to leave... so no, he was not chased off the dealership.

He left the dealership property because he was carrying a fire extinguisher, and was following the arsonists, and putting out the fires that they were attempting to start. They got pissed at him for stopping their riots, and then one of them, Rosenbaum, threatened him and started chasing him.

Go look at the video and the court records.

He did NOT get amongst the crowd, but was off the street, on the sidewalk area, putting out fires... literally putting out fires. Even the prosecution admits that just before the incident with Rosenbaum, Rittenhouse was literally putting out fires.
The prosecution case is that by putting out fires, Rittenhouse was instigating a violent confrontation with the rioters... so yeah.. let that sink in for a minute.... the prosecution is actually arguing that Rittenhouse should have let them riot and burn it all to the ground... is that really the kind of thing you want a DA to argue?? The DA is supposed to protect the CITIZENS of his community from the criminals, not defend the criminals from the heroes.

You are very much on the wrong side here.. you are on the side of the pedophiles and arsonists... go re-evaluate your life.

If he is guilty of a gun charge so be it, but he shouldn't be prosecuted for killing the scumbags who were trying to kill him.

I also fear we will see more and more of this kind of thing in communities where the government is unwilling or unable to protect people and their property from mob violence.

Yes, this tragedy could have been avoided had local and state law enforcement done their jobs and not let the animals run wild. Hopefully THEY have learned their lesson.

The chilling part is if the governments continue to allow mob violence, AND they continue to prosecute the innocent like Rittenhouse... then we will see unabated violence in the streets. The government will insure that people and property continue to be destroyed by leftist mobs.

Our only hope is that here in Texas we will continue to maintain our right to self protection. If that happens, then you will probably see even more people fleeing the lawless places like Portland & Chicago, and coming to Texas & Florida.

It is totally insane that the left is fighting hard to defund the police and also fighting hard to protect the criminals in the streets. How can they be so insanely stupid?

Kyle had more right to be there putting out fires than the militant wing of the democrat party had the right to be there setting fires. As a decent citizen who was tired of watching his community burn while democrat politicians held back police and the National Guard, Kyle had EVERY right to be there. In America, we hold true and self-evident the right to protect ourselves and our communities from all enemies, foreign and domestic. Our Second Amendment was written for situations just like the one in Kenosha, where a corrupt government was allowing evil people to attack and destroy an entire town. Cowards hate when brave people step up in their place. They come up with a litany of reasons why their cowardice is prudent and the bravery of others is wrong or shouldn't be allowed, but really it's all just them trying to justify their own fears and weakness in the face of such threats to their community.

Maybe they are taking the NCAA approach and hope that if they wait long enough to return a verdict everyone will lose interest.

Serious question, how long is jury deliberation allowed to last?

Given the charges, I expect the jury will have as much time as they ask for. Gotta believe the jury is having less fun than a guy getting a root canal with no novacaine.

Bravely ran Sir Robin.

Didn't know you were such a fan of "stand your ground" laws

When danger reared it's ugly head,

He bravely turned his tail and fled.
most states require an individual to attempt to flee from danger before they use deadly force.
Rittenhouse is a law abiding citizen, who attempted to get away from the criminals attacking him. Once it was clear that escape was not an option, he used lawful deadly force to stop the attacks.

Too bad you are more interested in silly jokes, rather than a situation which costs 2 idiots their lives.
Maybe if you take this more seriously, you can avoid being killed in the future. I say this because I seriously doubt you would be a Rittenhouse, but you could easily be a Rosenbaum... based upon your previous posts on this site.

Sorry, did you just call me a pedophile based on my posts? Which ones?

Continues to amaze me that we live in a world where brownshirts take to the streets to influence the jury system toward the will of the state. I think the world has seen this movie, and it did not end well.

They are not brown shirts. (The brown shirts after all had at least seen service as World War I soldiers)

They are modern red guards.

https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Red_Guards

They are primarily loser, upper middle class white kids looking for any purpose in life, who have latched onto this poisonous progressive ideology that is being peddled as truth today.

A. Rioting was for reasons you and I might disagree with, but it wasn't for no reason.
B. Agree
C. Police were there, they were just hamstrung in how they could react. The "let the fire burn itself out approach" was the decision, and it did cost more damage than should have occurred. But the young man had no authority (equal or additional) or decree to step in for police, and was unprepared for what might happen. This isn't something to be championed or lionized.

He has a right to self defense and I'm not seeing where the prosecution has proven this wasn't otherwise, but this swirling narrative from both sides is clouding the reality of the situation and I fear is going to cause a miscarriage of justice.

Disagree on C. When politicians hold back police and allow riots to continue it is up to citizens to step in and stop the violence. Citizens are literally the last line of defense against anarchy.

I think the guy chasing Rittenhouse, threatening to kill him and trying to grab is weapon is the bigger idiot.
