I remember quite clearly the next day I went to class, German, with a wonderful professor whose name I cannot remember. She began class with a reading from the Psalms (I wish I could remember which one) and a prayer. That is one of my fondest memories of Baylor because I thought it was such a class act and I thought that it was not something likely to occur at many other universities, private or public.

For the record, among my other great Baylor memories was when Pres. Reagan opened the Ferrell Center & the various musical & drama performances I attended (my first opera, Shakespeare, Handel's Messiah, Gershwin's Rhapsody in Blue with the piano solo performed by a teenager, etc). One of those Shakespeare performances was Othello with Samuel L. Jackson in the title role. Certainly, not your typical Shakespearian actor!

update weeks later: That German professor was Dr. Martin.

Yes, that was a big step early on. Walter Cronkite, the "most trusted man in America", reported that it was a communist victory when it was not. A few weeks later, Pres. Johnson decided not to seek reelection. "If I've lost Cronkite, I've lost middle America."
