Biden admin was pushing for nhtsa to make rules for the "impaired driver" interventions to be mandatory on vehicles - another tech that would have multiple (hopefully) unintended consequences.
Most of the articles complaining about Musk on this are very short of verified specifics beyond the 3 employees lost. The rest was conjecture.

DOGE was frankly a good idea. Highlight the waste and fraud a la Proxmire's old 'Golden Fleece' awards.

Problem is the Congress sat on the issue and did not do anything to codify the corrections needed. That's not on Trump, Musk, or the people at DOGE who exposed things that politicians have swept under the rug for too long.

I nag at you for blaming Trump for everything, because two years from now Trump will be gone but the problems will still be here unless we blame the people really at fault, and don't focus on trolling when there is real work to be done.

Those aren't doge numbers. Those drops are from later (mostly this year) from employees taking incentives to retire or move. Doge only dropped 30 who were mostly probationary. Biden admin had boosted nhtsa by 19% in 2023. If the nhtsa actually gets down to 555 employees, that will still be higher than 2016 (525).

DOT has dropped by some 2000 August 2016 to August 2026, from 54000+ to 52000+. It's not all doge.

Ok, I will make this simple.

Before Trump and his DOGE plan, Musk's companies (Tesla and SpaceX) had to get approval to show what they were proposing was safe for the general population.

AV's having a safety driver first and then having steering and brakes for passengers. The technology has not been proven that it won't crash. DOGE fired those people or people in those Departments supporting them. NOW, we have AV's with no steering or brakes on the road because no one is there to catch them.

SpaceX before DOGE had to get their flight plans approved by the FAA, which took 5 months. They looked at flight pathes over populated areas, conflicts with air travel, environmental impacts and reentry.

One of the reasons Kennedy Space Center is located on Cape Canaveral on the coast, Vandenberg in on the Pacific and the Russian's go to Siberia. No one around in case something goes wrong and we have a boom. Rocket is a ballistic missle with people on top, not a warhead. For example, one of SpaceX's rockets exploded and they were finding part of populated islands and a car got hit. Sometimes it is not more than impacting birds, which Musk said he would not have an omelette that week (True, it is on X).

Point being, this is ALL relevant to the automation we see going on and this thread. I know you guys think nothing Trump does has any effect, but at least you were told.
