1898: During the brief Spanish American War, the U.S. invaded Puerto Rico. The American conquest of the island was brief, lasting a few weeks.

1917: Famous German spy Mata Hari was sentenced to die.

1943: Benito Mussolini was voted out of power by his own Grand Council. He was then arrested.

1956: Swedish liner Stockholm dan into the Italian liner Andrea Dorea off the coast of the U.S. causing the latter to sink hours later.

1969: Pres. Richard Nixon announced the Nixon Doctrine, that the U.S. expected our Asian allies to be responsible for their own defense. It was a first step towards the withdrawal of American forces from Vietnam.

1978: First test tube baby was born in Manchester, England.

2000: Concorde supersonic jet crashed shortly after takeoff from Charles DeGaulle airport outside Paris, France killing all aboard. This provided the British & French governments a reason to stop funding the program.

Not yet. Fire Marshall is still on site.

So is the Bishop of the Diocese of Austin. He has vowed to rebuild it in all its splendor. Great if they can pull it off, but using modern construction, it's going to cost a pretty penny.

And while it may be pretty, it will have to make its own history.
