For me, it was probably the opening of the Berlin Wall on November 9, 1989. If I remembered the first moon landing, that might be it.

Old enough to remember both, in addition to where I was when Kennedy was shot, etc. The Berlin Wall opening held special meaning, since I had heard so much about it going up from Dr. Loyal Gould, head of the journalism department during my Baylor days. He was the only American journalist on site for the first couple of days when it went up.

I was in grad school when the Wall fell. I remember thinking that it was a good thing that I did not have a passport because if I had one I would find a way to get to Berlin and I really could not afford to. I eventually did make it there, almost 10 years later.

The back story of how this blowout came about is kinda fascinating, i never knew the details of it before looking it up just now.
Briefly, CC beat GT 22-0 in a baseball game, GT coach John Heisman accused CC of using pro players & ringers
Heisman vowed revenge when they played football next time, but CC had dropped their football program in 1915
Heisman says CC will owe GT $3000 fine if they don't play and honor their contract
CC manages to round up 13 fraternity brothers to go to Atlanta to play the game
It was 63-0 after 1st qtr, 126-0 at half. CC finishes game with -28 yds offense, no 1st downs, punted on 1st down most of the time.
