The only reason the world is not suffering world wide famine today…….

Is because of successful genetic manipulation of grain crops.
Productivity per acre has skyrocketed over the last century.

If AI solved hunger and poverty, the obesity rate would be astronomical along with the associated diseases!

I would think he is meaning that AI could find more efficient ways to grow food, reduce waste, and robots could help do those things without making errors like humans are prone to do. Just a thought. No clue if that is what he is meaning.

Or is that the name for the "secretary" at a company that answers the phone and sends you to the correct department/person? Because it seems like most have already done away with that for the menu of options and pressing a number anyways.

Lots of potential economic, political, and ethical issues to be figured out.

I think that's right

Robots could conceivably work farms 24-7 endlessly

AI could run labs and tests without rest until it solves various issues with diseases or gene edits better crops.

Trade school seems to make more sense by the day for anyone about to graduate. Especially in fields where there are already shortages like plumbers, electricians, welders, etc. because we went through about a 30 year period of schools pushing "everyone needs to go to college" and either acting like trade schools don't exist or are bad.

No matter how much you have, there will be humans ready to consume way more than they should. And others who will waste it with ease.

We could have already solved world hunger and poverty. All we need is everyone who has more, to share with the one who has less. Humans don't do that, except for a few.

Technology will not change human nature.

True. But I was thinking more alone the lines of technology making farming easier in areas with ow food resources. We have already seen it happen with training and technology on farming practices, water usage, etc.

AI and robots could make it even cheaper and more efficient causing areas with food shortages to become more self sufficient

there are TWO data centers coming to the Waco area....that I know of. Will be 3 miles apart.

This trend will force hard decisions on water & power. The environmentalists are going to have a hard decade ahead of them. Many of their shibboleths and institutions are going to get "overtaken by events"

I think the point of his notes is that there is a very clear threat too all of mankind with AI. It could easily run rampant if not controlled in some form or fashion

Not really automation but thought some of you other old farts or computer historians might get a kick out of this. Computers started in WWII and finished in 1946

After working on the atomic bomb, Von Neumann didn't stop.

He drafted the "von Neumann architecture": the stored-program computer.

Memory + instructions + data combined together.

That design powers nearly every computer today.



He designed a self-reproducing automaton:

A machine that works
A constructor that reads the recipe
A copier that duplicates the recipe

Sound familiar?

That's DNA's logic years before its discovery.

I think that is why some people claim that with AI doing everything the government would have to put in a basic universal income. But I have no idea how that would be able to work because it would not allow people to save, invest, or move up in terms of classes.
