Part of the problem is that by the next election most people will either forget or the city council members run unopposed.

Same for the state or national level. Plenty of them do things that people claim they won't vote for them again..... but then 2, 4 or 6 years later.... they vote for them.

If the voted based on who showed up at Public Meetings, we would never get anything approved. That is who goes and speak.

If there was vocal opposition that was numerous in the meeting, perhaps there should be a quick town wide vote or canvassing.
Problem with scenes like this is those who are against a development are more likely to turn up at a meeting. Those for it would more likely be less enthusiastic and absent. The indifferent are, well, indifferent.

Exactly, normal people have lives and do not spend their time doing protest. And it always the same people

What data centers is he talking about? The ones I have seen look basically like a warehouse without a bunch of truck docks. Just big square or rectangular buildings. Not much "architectural" features to them.

You have to understand where he is coming from as a developer. Cheap property, high returns and no tenants. He is not talking architectural, environmental or quality of life. He is talking dollar signs. He would never allow one near his residence. Same with White rock, they will build them in your neighborhood rake in cash and tell you how looks dont matter or the hum doesn't matter or that they are safe (we really don't know and just starting to research the impact of particulant impacts).

But they make money for the developer...

There is nothing beautiful of a data center, it is an industrial site. The only thing beautiful is the economic output for those NOT living around it.

His enemy is math. Technology won't solve the scarcity problem, especially if the tech you have amounts to data crunching, but not actual production of vital goods.

Nah, you just think so. We are all TOO paranoid on here and think every comment is a personal attack. Many times it is just a comment. Hard to tell difference when it is just writing. Things seem harsher than meant, at least from me. I would have a beer with pretty much anyone on here even if I don't agree. It is just politics...

Lots of blather, concluding with "China, China, China." In reality, China's AI research is much more regulated and cautious than ours. We can and should agree on a set of guardrails like we have for weapons with the potential for mass destruction...oh, wait. Not any more.

Wow. Just wild. And that he was the one that suggested melting them is crazy.

As a side wouldn't that have ruined the quality of the steel now that it has other metals in it like copper and whatever else metal the robot is made of? I get that the plastics and rubber would melt off but the other metals would be there reducing the quality of the steel for whatever it is being used for. Or is the vat so big it wouldn't matter?
